LosslessCut overview

LosslessCut is a simple and ultra fast cross platform tool for lossless trimming/cutting of video and audio files. Great for saving space by rough cutting your large video files taken from a video camera, GoPro, drone, etc. It lets you quickly extract the good parts from your videos and discard many gigabytes of data without doing a slow re-encode and thereby losing quality. It extremely fast because it does an almost direct data copy. It uses the awesome ffmpeg (included) for doing the grunt work.

Features:

Lossless cutting of common video and audio formats
Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format
Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos. Great for rotating phone videos that turns out the wrong way without actually re-encoding the video.
Manual input range of cutpoints
Can include more than 2 streams or remove audio track (optional)

I use it nearly every week. With every update it becomes better and better! Especially cutting out parts of video and merging to a new file is great. Extremely fast. If you need just mp4 editing without recoding, the only tool you need.

LosslessCut gets updated so often that I download it only when I'm going to use it... ;-) I can't add much to my former comments: it's working perfectly, the interface is nice. Only downside: the yin-yang symbol is not perfectly clear but at least you have a big message saying if you keep or discard segments, so it's ok. This particular version is crashing at launch (MacOS 10.11), but I trust the dev to fix it soon. ;-)

I was excited to find this app, as the description makes it seem perfect: I have an mp4 from which I'd like to losslessly trim about 10 seconds at the top.

So, I launch LosslessCut, I find the precise "cut start," then I export the video. But the exported video starts about a second *before* the location I selected. Thinking this might be a quirk of the software, I moved my cut start to a second later—but the exported video remained unchanged. In fact I kept moving the start point later and later, and it wasn't until I had moved it a full 5-6 seconds later that it moved at all—of course to a point that's now too late!

I realize it's free software, and I truly appreciate that. But the phrase "you had one job" comes to mind. If edits aren't precise, that *literally* defeats the (one) purpose of the app.

I gave another trial for the new version and discovered that LosslessCut integrates a fast temporary conversion utility that allows you to work with any unsupported format: the editing uses the converted version but the actual edits are made using the original format! And it keeps all tracks even subtitles. A really great feature! (that old video editors will recall as what was used in the early days of digital editing ;-) ) Things that I still miss though: keyframes support and customizable shortcuts — the current shortcuts are absurd on a French keyboard: moving 1 frame back uses the coma and 1 frame forward uses the numeric keypad dot... LosslessCut might become a welcome replacement for MPEG Streamclip.

I think I'm gonna love this app! :-) It doesn't support the .ts files, but if you remux them into mp4 before, without converting, you can trim them! — I've just made one fast trial and there doesn't seem to be any issue. It's probable a marginal use for most of the people but for me it means a lot! ;-) 4 stars only because commands could be easier and a manual would not be a luxury — i.e. there doesn't seem to be commands for moving the playhead to keyframes, neither by 1s/10s, for example.
