Camera Guard3.1.1

10 March 2020

Webcam and microphone protection.

Overview

Camera Guard makes sure that no hacker, spy or malware can observe you or listen in on you. With just one single click, not only the camera, but also the microphone will be completely protected. Camera Guard is more than just a new safety product - it is an uncompromising unprecedented solution, which secures every iMac and MacBook user perfectly.

Features
  • See nothing - hear nothing. For those who should not. Camera securely protected - Microphone securely protected. With only two clicks the protection is activated and Camera Guard blocks and observes all programs and processes that try to access the webcam of the macOS device. Every attempted security breach will be reported with a signal. To further prevent manipulations, the individual settings of the software can be secured with a PIN that is especially secured by hacker-safe protection. While all accesses and warnings are conveniently protocolled in the log file, the intelligent Deep Detective detects even previously unknown attacks.
  • Deep Detective A smart invention against (un)known threats. With the Deep Detective we have created an intelligent and versatile detective that observes all accesses to the macOS device - similar to an alarm system, a firewall or an Intrusion Detection System - only smarter. Deep Detective permanently controls which process or program currently attempt to access the camera. Additionally it reports known - and thanks to modern heuristic methods - also unknown attack attempts. Every possibility to spy on you is proactively restricted from hackers, spies and Trojans.
  • Safe. Minimal resources. Camera Guard is an all-round safe, fast and slim solution, additionally we emphasized specifically for MacBook users, a sustainable usage of system resources: The software uses minimal disk space, and has a minimal footprint on central memory and processor, in order to minimize battery consumption of the device at all times.
  • An ideal combination. Camera Guard can, especially with activated Deep Detective, be used ideally in combination with other existing security solutions like anti-virus scanners or firewalls. Anti-virus scanners and personal firewalls have already been stretched to their limits for years: With Camera Guard you surpass those limits, because the software observes and secures specific hardware components that couldn’t be protected by modern security solutions - until now!

The application comes in two editions: Free and Pro. Pricing info can be found here.

Not only this app but their apps are suck! Always give error during activation. They always make some easy things difficult. I don't know why. But it wasted my time. Uninstalled!

Don't buy this app! After I contacted with this company, the following two key points for you: 1. If this app detects action (I mean this app's function), it USUALLY takes a very HIGH CPU usage, for example, launching App Store app will trigger detecting to occur (there is a function called Deep Detective in this app), and a VERY HIGH CPU usage will happen. This burned my Mac, and took a VERY LONG TIME, so I always need to quit this app, when my MacBook fans spinning High. 2. I have a few apps by this company, the update period is too long like Camera Guard and iLocker. I think I need to GIVE UP ALL their products and choose alternative apps.

Hey Guys!

I hate to be the dissenting voice here against your product but I feel I have some very valid concerns about your Camera Guard for Mac and your business model.

I bought this product outright about two years ago. It's not cheap software. I was surprised and a bit disgruntled to find out that a purchase only contained a license good for one year. However, I figured once I bought it, I wouldn't need to buy updates. I mean, I own the product outright and it should keep working.....right?

Well, after a year, the product stopped working entirely. I give kudos to you guys that upon contacting you, you send me a new license to keep my purchased software running.

But now? I keep getting pop-ups reminding me that my Camera Guard license has expired though the product will keep working. This is not just one pop-up reminder, mind you, but constant pop-up reminders.

I would include a screenshot of the annoying pop-up but you can't attach files here.

Why are you guys doing this?

What's worse is that the cost of upgrades is exorbitant. You want, I believe, $29 a year at least for upgrade privileges after I spent that much for the program itself.

Guys, I hate to say this, but it's highway robbery.

Listen, I paid for this software. I don't reminders that the license has expired. I would probably support upgrades if you priced it reasonably, say at $10 a year. However, at the prices you are charging I can't keep renewing this software and I certainly don't need my purchase copy littered with pop-up reminders.

Is there anything you can do about this before I uninstall the software completely and find another product that does the same thing with a one-time purchase?

Thank You for understanding.

PS: There is software much cheaper out there -- in fact here is one that is completely FREE -- that does nearly as good a job:

Some of this functionality is addressed in macOS 10.13 High Sierra, where you can turn your camera and microphone on and off in the system preferences. Of course Camera Guard does more than this and may be useful on mobile Macs which are used in a variety of venues where the WiFi may be insecure. Whether you need this additional protection will depend on what other security software you are using, if any. Right now the competition between Mac security software developers is pretty intense, to the extent that many cost about the same, around $30. Some others, though, are subscription based, which means you have to pay again every year. This may be justified considering the ever changing security landscape; whether you want to pay all that is a personal decision. Apparently, at the moment, you pay for Camera Guard only once. Be aware, though, that this may change, as it did with MalwareBytes, once they think their market share is sufficiently developed.

Not free. Save your money and use a sticky over your camera lens and take a pair of bad headphones and cut the wires off right above the plug then plug this dead plug into the microphone jack. Solution = free.

The free version is more of a trial version as it leaves out microphone protection and many other useful features, including support. The full version is $30.

Recently purchased Pro license for my laptop. Downloaded Camera Guard for my desktop and tried to activate using the same activation number, no go, not accepted. So it seems you have to purchase a license for each machine you want it installed on. Not a very customer friendly attitude. Goodbye ProtectStar. I was going to buy some of your other products, not now.
