Overview

3DWeather shows weather information in an interesting style. It lets you keep a 3D animated widget on the desktop that generates scenic representation of the present weather condition. One can also hide the widget and access the app from Menubar. It can be easy and quick to get latest weather updates and forecast whenever you need them. Hover over the widget and wait for some time. A pop up window will automatically appear with the basic weather details and statistics.

The developer has completely given up on this app. When it was originally released, it worked fine. Over the past two years, the weather isn't even near accurate. The app says its raining on a sunny. The app says it's 70-degrees when there are inches of snow outside of my window. I have repeatedly reported issues to the developer but it has fallen on deaf ears. It seems that the author of the software can no longer get this app to work reliably. Check out the wealth of one-star reviews on the app store and you will find that I am giving you an accurate assessment of this software.

All better now! As 'some user', I'd reported assorted bombing bugs and messed up Cº vs Fº in the GUI as well as its penchant for booting at startup without permission. All of that is gone. Took long enough! So now it's happy and fun and useful again.

Apparently, having read my criticism of v3.3 inadvertently becoming non-functional, the developer rapidly responded and repaired problems at his server end. Nice! Now v3.4 is out and working fine. Therefore, my 4-star rating is restored. I tossed on an extra half-star to thank the developer for quickly responding. Checking out the current, daily and weekly weather is fun again on Mac. (^_^)

Version 3.3 is running POORLY on my MacBook Pro with 10.14.5 Mojave. Clicking on the background image immediately BOMBS the app every time. When clicking for weather details in the menu bar, the popup is stuck open forever. Clicking on it again only makes it re-popup. The odd workaround is to Control-click it, aka right-click it. Meanwhile, the detailed weather is blank. Then there's the nefarious Phoning Home problem. Now it wants to connect over the net to every imaginable netizen surveillance service imaginable. That's unacceptable, IMHO, for a paid app. No permission is requested. It's standard. It's abuse. [And please no comment attempting to justify this abuse. Thank you.] As such, unless Samit Gupta, the developer, gets his app working again, I consider it to be DEAD. √ Annoying net surveillance. √ Weather details are gone. √ Buggy weather popup. √ Bombs, Bombs, Bombs. R.I.P. (;_;) ?

3DWeather is currently on sale at the Mac App Store for $0.99 and well worth it! The app is very nicely designed, snappy and useful. You can set up to 10 different weather locations. Hourly readings and Daily predictions out to 4 days are available. The graphics are simple and elegant. A pile of different free Themes are accessible inside the app. It also has a choice of icon sets.

My concerns:
• The 'Full" mode and the Preferences "More Info" tab both do massive phoning-home to ad trackers. As ever, I suggest using a 'reverse firewall' such as Little Snitch to either block or only temporarily allow these connections. Thankfully, ad tracking does not occur in the rest of the app.
• I have no idea what the 'Apps' tab is supposed to do. It merely sits-and-spins, from my experience, and remains blank.
• The app crashed while I was navigating between desktops.

Missing is barometric air pressure. I wrote the developer suggesting it be added and also suggested a graphical old style barometer mode. Leaving out air pressure is oddly standard practice in weather apps. I cannot fathom why. I find it incredibly useful. Since weather apps rarely provide it, I'm regularly pestering Siri to give me the current air pressure. Comparing sequential air pressure readings provides useful insight into changes in the weather.

Why go outside MacUpdate to purchase-interested but not willing to go to an unfamiliar developer site with $ info-security is one reason I use MacUpdate
