This is an excellent app, except that the current version is buggy with OS 10.9.2. It will freeze up and not update information either automatically, or even using "Refresh" in the Controls. I have to quit the app, then relaunch it. I do hope Meteorologist is updated for Mavericks!

I love Meteorologist, when it works. Sometimes it functions, most of the time it doesn't on 10.8.5 and the link to the previous version seems dead. Unfortunately there is nothing else like it that works.

Update: I have found that if I launch it repeatedly it will eventually 'catch' and run, usually just a few times but never more than 5-10. This is on a current MacPro running 10.8.5.

With 10.9 it now takes about 5 launch tries before it sticks in the menu bar. With 10.8 it usually worked the second time on my 2008 Mac Pro.

I just read on the developers web site: "Right (or Control) click and say OPEN". I haven't tried it, but it seems to eliminate the prospect of automatic launch at start-up. On the plus-side, it still works!

I just installed it for the first time. I'm in Snow Leopard on an old 2008 Intel... and I got zip. I clicked on it a few dozen times and it doesn't even start at all.

Oops! My bad. I thought this opened as an App. It doesn't. It just shows up at the top on the Monitor as a little extra pull-down.

By the way... I'm not all that big on the Weather Channel. They've become as insipid as the History Channel doing silly bits like "When Rain Showers Attack!!!"

Deleting preferences works on 10.8.3 but you have to do it every time you restart. An update is really whats needed.

Just go to /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and throw out the file com.heat.meteo.plist . You will just to have to add your Cities back but it will fix your problem.

This review is actually on the last PPC version of Meteorologist. Since it is only one version back it is still proper.

I have tried several weather programs over the years and I found that Meteorologist is the best one to use and it is free. It is very robust in its' features and has a very low learning curve.

Picking cites is very easy to do by either entering the name and state or zip code. You can set what units to use (IE- ºF or ºC) which is very helpful depending where you live. The forecast can be set from 9 to 1 days. In the dock or menu you can access a quick look at current conditions and if you use ASM, you can access all the data you would get from the ASM menu. So if you had not tried ASM, now would be a good time to try it.

I do not think that even the programmer is aware of this link. This way if you do not want to put it in the menu, there is no need to or lack space. The only thing missing is a link to radar to help when a major storm system is moving in and you want to see what is happening around you.

The pity is if it is done PPC users will not be able to download that version unless the author does like the people at VLC, Make two version of the update or make a one more time a UB of the program.

As I said this program is totally non-invasive on you Mac due to it is a stand alone app. It does not use any screen space, it can show the data in the Menu, Dock, ASM and as I said it is free. So if you have been looking for a weather program with all these features this is number 1 in the top 10 of weather programs. End of Line...

Note- the overall rating should be a 5 but when I clicked on the star I was off by a like less than a mm and gave me a 4.5. So I apologize for that. MUD should offer a way to correct the star ratings when it gets a wrong selection.

Been using Meteo for more than 5 years and love it. But, v.1.6.1 no longer works right on my OS 10.8.2 Mid-2012 MacBook Pro (though it works fine on my 10.6.8 iMac). I doesn’t fully start up when my Mac is started cold or restarted, nor when its icon in the Applications folder is double-clicked. That is to say, it starts but doesn’t successfully fetch any data. Had to remove it from the Login Items list. Bummer.

I don't know what is different, but I just installed Meteorologist 1.6.1 on OS 10.8.2 (late 2012 Mac mini), selected the desired location and it appears to be running just fine. I wonder if your download was corrupted somehow or other.

Meteorologist has broken for me after updating to Mavericks 10.9.2. If this is true for others, maybe there's a chance for a "maintenance update?" I have used Meteo for years!

Thanks.

Works fine in general, but when it starts refresh current conditions, the menubar icon appears as it is updating and will not change back to regular. When quit app and start again everything is normal, until next refresh.

Any ideas?

I too had trouble with Met 1.5.0. Wouldn't open in Mac OS 10.6.3 running on a quad Msc Pro nor in OS 10.6.2. Log says

*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'NSApp with wrong _running count'

I deleted the one p-list preference file I found in Library>Preferences. Is there more than one? Please list location of all preferences.

Thanks,
