Static site generator that builds websites locally.

Overview

Cactus is a static site generator. A static site generator allows you to build websites locally, using modern web technologies, and have the results generated to a collection of flat files. This is useful because setting up a server environment with Django or Ruby can be difficult and expensive. A static site generator lets you enjoy the flexibility of running a webserver, and host the generated flat files anywhere you'd like.

We like to think of Cactus as a complete enhancement of your website building workflow. It gives you solid starting points in the form of templates, direct visual feedback while building with auto refresh, offers useful integrations with SASS, SCSS & CoffeeScript and deploys to Amazon’s Web Services platform. Cactus is ideal for people that like to hand code their own HTML and CSS, want to quickly start and iterate on projects, use flexible tools like auto refresh, templates and CSS Preprocessors, want advanced Amazon hosting, but don't enjoy setting up template engines or deployment scripts.

Tried the demoversion of the app which runs for 7 days. Nice simple app, but everything around it is very hobbyistic. I found this out when I actually tried to buy the app in MacAppstore. I got a message that 'the item is temporarily not available'. Then I needed to look for some form of support or at least a normal form of contact: Not Available! Then I found the mailaddress of the Appstore salescontact on Github and sent him a mail: No Response at all! So basically you cannot even buy this app. These developers are promoted by the fact they were once successful with Sofa. Well, probably more because of their creativity than their professionalism. I'm stuck with a useless demo-app that will run for 2 days. A waist of my time.

Was testing mixture.io the same time and dealt with a small bug. Very nice more mature app, also for static sites, but very responsive support! Found this out mailing back and forth halfday on sunday.

There are 200 free command-line ones out there. This is an application written for Mac, well-designed, and with AWS integration. It's not the same thing. I would never use a command-line SSG but I'm planning to purchase this.
