FilmTag overview

FilmTag automatically adds metadata information to iTunes compatible movie files (MP4 or MV4). It uses the Apple's AVFoundation framework to process video files and theMovieDB to fetch movies info.

What’s new in version 1.4.0

Version 1.4.0:
  • Better reliability for TV shows. Now using themoviedb.org as the datasource for TV shows.
  • Configurable content rating country (for parental control) now working for United-States, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and France
  • Fixed issue with file names containing accents
  • Fixed copy/paste not working in search field

I like the speed and accuracy of this app, but it's a bit too simplistic for me. I would like to see what metadata is being imported and make adjustments if necessary. As @Stongey said, there is often multiple artwork available, being able to select which one to use would be far more convenient than having to do it manually within iTunes. Also, often people writing blurbs on themoviedb have no idea what a blurb is supposed to be and submit long meandering novels which need to be edited or replaced. Good potential, but I'll stick with iFlicks for metatagging, it does a stellar job with both movies and TV shows - better than MetaX/Z ever did.

FilmTag is pretty cool and, since MetaX is dead-ware, much needed. It, however, needs a way to browse artwork if a movie has more than 1 poster... Or how about XBMC-style NFO/artwork export, so videos integrate into both iTunes and XBMC? File Renaming? (And TV show support, which the dev is apparently working on...) Crashes or errors maybe 10% of the time on Handbrake-encoded MP4s (for me with the pre-App Store free version, anyway). Code is hosted on Git-Hub, but I haven't had luck building it on 10.7 Lion (I'm not much of a coder...) Could be a killer app soon. Keep it up Plourde.
