MetaZ is an MP4 metadata editor for OS X.

It started its life when another great metadata editor, MetaX, stopped getting updated. Some of the web services it used changed in ways that broke functionality and it had some really annoying (to us at least) little missing things like no proper window resizing. This lead to us starting MetaZ as a reimplementation of MetaX with a few ideas of our own sprinkled in there.

Since I couldn't figure out how to use it, I will refrain from rating it... yet. But it is loaded with some bad signs.

--No basic help file.
--No obvious online documentation.
--Does not successfully connect to anything for me but TagChimp, which is the pig-pile of the metadata world (filled with multiple entries with all sorts of differing errors for most titles).

Looking for something to supplement missing (actual) metadata editing in Subler, but this isn't it.

Okay, started to figure it our in opening an MP4 (duh). Does not find metadata for half the episodes of the new prime time shows I watch. Chapter editor is worthless, does not correctly read the number or duration of entries in a chapter file... and does not let you edit the duration of the entered chapters. Serious work is needed here, since I know the chapter file works as is and is produced correctly by Subler. More later perhaps.

I loved MeaX and have been using for years. Seeing this was an upgrade to one of my favorite tools, of course I tried it. It totally blew all of my files up. Too bad - really wanted it to work.

Absolutely horrible "upgrade" of meta x. Riddled with bugs and unworkable issues. Yes, they managed to include the new 'movies' category but most everything else is broken. Why doesn;t someone make a non-freeware version that works? I would gladly pay $10.

Can't add any cover art in 1.0a9. Seems to be fixed in the code - waiting for another update I guess.

Was looking for something to help me tag my library of Handbrake ripped TV Shows and Movies. This worked wonderfully in tagging my movies, a few times though it would randomly stop searching for stuff requiring a reboot or something.

I started to tag TV shows and midway through tagging a season, the search feature just stopped working and did not return search results anymore.

Guess I can't complain because it's free, but having a functional search feature would be nice. I was using the same search term as before so I am not sure as to why it would just randomly stop showing the same results.

Off to give Vidalin a shot.

Nah. Vidalin was worse. Won't allow a queue to tag multiple files at once. Switched back to this, and the search feature randomly works again. Seems intermittent/unreliable.

I look forward to seeing this program evolve though as it has a lot of potential.

Great software. And glad to see that people took up the task off reanimating the already dead metax. Thanks for that.

I have a problem with the date though. Every date I enter comes out one day earlier. I saw a ticket for that in the ticketsystem but 1.0a8 is still broken.

MetaZ comes with four metadata lookup plugins installed, but github shows there are two additional plugins: Amazon and IMDB. How do I get and install those two additional plugins?
