Well, it's nice that someone finally picked this up, but in all honesty - this GUI is pretty useless.

A good GUI should make a CLI tool *easier* to use, not harder. It should also add some additional value to the CLI tool, which I don't see this doing at all.

How is this any better than simply running:
$ sudo ddrescue /dev/disk2s2 myimage.dmg myimage.log

You should make this *way* better before asking for donations.

PS: here's a link to a ddrescue 1.17 binary (compiled on OS X 10.7):

Hmm, kinda harsh man.. it's beta and we are doing this for free. Real harsh.

Latest version 1.0.2 Beta, Check it out and let us know if there are any bugs. Remember this is Beta. We have a list of know issues with the project on our website. Please do not use this app unless you understand the risks of data recovery. Thanks, Dev.

Might be helpful if you provided a properly compiled version of ddrescue. There doesn't seem to be one available. Preferably one not archived with LZip.

Skapplin replied on 13 Apr 2013
Oh, there is no readme file in the archive although What's New lists that.

Skapplin, thank you for your reply, I am new to macupdate and very confused on how to use it. I don't even know how to properly reply to your comment. The upload was an issue yesterday and took four times to get it right and I grabbed wrong package. :(

Please advise error in compile and preferred Zip tool.

I will resubmit file with readme.

Keep me posted, if need be send an email.

It would be nice if the dev included a short description about ddrescue in that extremely brief blurb at the top of this page, like perhaps "ddrescue-gui is a graphical user front end for ddrescue, which is yadda yadda yadda....”

That way, the more curious folks among us could determine immediately if this is something they’re interested in, rather than having to waste a minute or two on a Google or Wikipedia search to suss out the purpose of ddrescue before swearing at the developer and moving on to other MacUpdate threads.

@GeoProf Thanks for informing me of this. I will see about adding a more descriptive introduction about the app. I agree, I've got a few responses from users thinking it was a free and cheep recovery tool. One, it's BETA. Two, if one doesn't know what the command line program _ddrescue_ is or how it works. Then GUI frontend can only add to the danger of loosing your data... yada, yada, yada... something along those lines, but nicer.
