Updated on Nov 06 2021

Version 5.0.0:
  • This version is a significant update of SnapMotion. We have worked hard to improve the interface to adopt the latest news of macOS, which allows you to capture images much faster. In this new version, you can now import video directly from your Photos library and Youtube. The batch processing has been revised to be included in the main window. The capture engine is more efficient and can now export thousands of images in GIF as well as MP4/MOV.

IINA does this and a lot more (AB looping for instance) for free. The functionality is under the Playback menu, Take Screenshot or simply command-S.

I have been looking for an app like this for a while. I often need to extract an image from videos from my dashcam or other camera, and I had previously been using ffmpeg which extracts an image for each frame of the video, which can be several hundred images for less than a minute of video. With SnapMotion, all I have to do is move through the video, find the frame I want and capture it, then move on to another if I want more. I can extract single images or groups of images, and I have a choice of formats to export them in. It couldn’t be easier!
