DockShelf overview

DockShelf lets you place unlimited docks around your desktop so you never run out of space again for your commonly used files, folders and applications! We've all seen it and you've probably experienced it yourself - a Dock exploding with files and apps which has been shrunk so small you can barely see what anything is anymore.

DockShelf helps you manage the clutter of the Dock by offering another form of "dock shelf" which you can place around any edge of your screen without any restrictions and has more options for customization.

With DockShelf launching your favorite documents and apps is faster and more powerful because you control where your docks are positioned, how many are on screen, how they're labeled and when they're visible.

Foulger - Since your last post of May 16, 2019, have you had any communication with the developer of DockShelf? Thought I believe DockShelf is a good program, it was last updated in November 2017. As such I am concerned about the commitment that the developer has (or not) to further improve this application. Any update you can share with us about the developer? I would really appreciate it.

May 17. This developer ignores all emails. Not only bad manners but he leaves an excellent app half finished.

This is an updated review of January 2018. I have found a bug in DockShelf for those of you who use multiple desktops. Its in regard to Tags, either persistent or not. Tags only works in the desktop that the docks were created on. If you move to another dock, tags disappear. You can get them to appear in another desktop if you quit dock shelf, launch it in the new desk top and then click and unblock "Show persistent tags". Also I find the portion of a dock to posit not your desired position, to be ultra sensitive. Apart from that I find it to be the best substitute for my all time favourite, Dock-It which is 32 bit and Gideon software seems to have disappeared. I am in communication with the app developer and I hope he will fix these issues soon. I would rather pay more for an app that is complete.

At the moment having purchased it because Dock-It will no longer work when apple pulls 32 bit support, I find it similar but not yet "the full quid". Worth the money yes but I find the dock area too sensitive with an apple magic trackpad 2, so a sensitivity control would be good. Because Im a bit OTT ( Have seven docks spaced around my monitor, I feel it would be good if each tab would "grow" in proportion to the number of apps/files etc in it, so that one does not have to precisely look for the tab. Apart from that its easy to set up, although I must say I prefer dock-its way of adding apple and files to a particular dock. Perhaps the developer should download dock-it, see how easy it is to set that up and add some of the features to dock shelf. Quite good - some room for improvement

Promising and interesting concept, terrible pre-alpha level execution. I placed the docks on the left side of my screen, but when I connect an external monitor (and so have two screens) the dock tabs appear on the left edge of the RIGHT screen. I spent a good about of time configuring a desktop style dock, and put a lot of things that were cluttering up my real desktop. So far, great. Then dockshelf crashed, and the desktop dock, and all the contents, were nowhere to be seen. Gone. Automator scripts I had used and tweaked for years- gone. Time machine fixed it, but what the hell damn guy? The dock tabs also randomly change position and spacing. Incredibly frustrating. I don't wanna adjust dockshelf spacing and placement every time I use my computer. I got this to make things easier.
