Screen capture utility.

Overview

Ondesoft ScreenCapture is currently the most powerful screen grabbing utility for the Mac OS, allowing you to easily capture any part on your Mac desktop, such as a rectangular or elliptical region, a freehand region, the full screen, the active window, or all windows from any Web browser or application, and so on. The knobs on the sides and corners of the interface can be used to resize the frame according to need. The transparent frame allows you to see content and icons through it. In addition, a screen magnifier with hotkey instructions that can be hidden or displayed can help capture the exact region as you want.

Features:

  • All the main function buttons can be accessed in the intuitive interface.
  • Grabbing your entire desktop, rectangular or elliptical region, a particular window, or all windows can be done with just one click.
  • Arbitrary Snap function allows you to create shapes tailored to your desired image.
  • With just one click, you can capture any part of desktop.
  • Timer Screens are delayed as long as you like to set up what you want to capture on Mac -- like a menu -- then snap it when you're ready.
  • Screen magnifier can magnify the edges of a frame to help capture an area of your screen accurately.
  • Set Hotkeys and make the fastest image-capture program even quicker.
  • Add some effects with the Grab Tool, Text Tools, the Brush Tool, Custom Shape Tools, and an easy-to-use Arrow Tool.
  • Save your captured image in a wide variety of image formats, including PNG, BMP, TIFF, PPM, XBM, XPM, ICO, and JPEG.
  • Options in the Preferences Panel allow even more customization of the Timed Screen function, the Magnification window, Launch options, and many more aspects of Ondesoft ScreenCapture.
  • Save your grabbed images directly to the desktop or copy them straight to the clipboard.

I write for one reason: to impress upon the dev that word of mouth matters. I arrived at this page, looking for a LittleSnapper replacement, with credit card in hand. Your price doesn't phase me, but your tactics do. End result: based on what I've read here, I won't even bother with a trial. It's the gift you gave yourself. Folks, thanks so much for your detailed commentary. MUCH appreciated!!

Same here. I was going to get the bundle, but decided to read the reviews because of the suspicious price point ($215 down to $10). Not going to bother, I already own Snapz Pro and Screeny and they work well for my needs. I've been burned too many times by such market practices like the ones described here. Thanks to the reviewers!

Horrid company with sharp practices. Do yourself a favour and use SnapNDrag for basics (windows, selections) and Layers or Acorn for fancy stuff. SnapNDrag gives you an interface for quick saving (kind of a front end for the built-in screenshot commands). Ondesoft doesn't offer much value and you will find yourself scrabbling to keep a running version, despite owning software with nominal lifetime upgrades.

Huh. The free serial number they gave you in their '"Ondesoft Summer Holiday Giveaway" promotion doesn't work for this update.

Same for me. Seems they even charge for .x updates. That's too expensive in the long run. I will delete it. Even Snapz Pro X got a free upgrade recently.

The non-upgradeable marketing approach that this company takes is atrocious. They claim in their giveaways and when their products are included in bundles that they are worth $X. Well the version that can be upgraded is worth $X. The version that quickly falls out of date and cannot be upgraded is basically a glorified trial version. I've stopped looking at anything this company has to offer due to this horrible practice and sincerely advise you to do the same.

I agree with the sentiments in these reviews about this company. Free giveaway is a ploy they use to make users feel like they're getting something. What they are getting is a trial version - and even the trials sometimes don't last (like the bundlicious freebie that somehow expired after activation). Not a major loss anyway. The software is quite poor. Unattractive GUI and functions that are actually better in Preview.

Bit of a typo there, should have been ' Those KIND people at Apple', (although, upon reflection, 'KING' seems quite apt!)

THESE PEOPLE ARE HAVING A LAUGH, literally at your expense! You've paid for and own the best computer and operating system in the universe, now get to know how to use it, and SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY! Just press COMMAND+SHIFT+4, Left Click and hold, then drag out the area of the screen you want to capture, let go of the mouse button and - Hey Presto! If pressing three keys simultaneously presents a challenge, those king people at Apple have provided an alternative for you, just look in your 'Utilities' folder, there you will find an application called 'Grab'

@hilbo60 Ondesoft screen capture allows you to grab a snapshot of exactly what you need: full screen, a region, a window, all windows or a scrolling window. Also, you can edit your screenshots on mac very easily. It can do far more than COMMAND+SHIFT+4. It can capture irregular objects as well as doing scrolling capture.

Ondesoft's stated reasons to buy ScreenCapture: 1) full screen capture: Use ScreenCapture or just type COMMAND+SHIFT+3 2) capture a region: Use ScreenCapture or just type COMMAND+SHIFT+4 3) capture a window: Use ScreenCapture or just start Apple's Preview.app and go File->Take a Screen Shot->From Window... 4) capture all windows: I'm not sure what that means, but you can use ScreenCapture or you can start Apple's Preview.app and go File->Take a Screen Shot->From Window... multiple times. 5) capture a scrolling window: Ondesoft's got me on that one. Use ScreenCapture. 6) edit your screenshots on mac very easily: use ScreenCapture or use Apple's Preview.app to crop the image, change the image's file format, or draw shapes on the image. 7) capture irregular objects: Use ScreenCapture or just type COMMAND+SHIFT+4 Also, just food for though: In addition to hundreds of incredible image editing capabilities, Flying Meat's Acorn image editor can take a screen shot for you and sets all of the individual screen elements into separate layers. ScreenCapture costs $30, Acorn costs $50.

Just a quick note: If you'd like to get a free license for the version of Onde you see here, both the developer and Cult of Mac have teamed up to "gift" them for the time being. No twittering or friending required. Link: http://www.cultofmac.com/177197/onde-screen-capture-for-mac-giveaway/

They direct you to the Onde website where you have to register. I recently noticed a spade of give-aways where you get some simple utility in exchange for your email. Seems to me like an email harvesting endeavor.

COMMAND + SHIFT = 4 totally free ,included with every MAC OS to date!!! why the hell would people pay for $20 for this crap??? never had any problems taking any screenshots with the mac's built in command for it. i guess most gullible people just don't know how to use their macs properly!

Just because the OS features similar features, doesn't mean that this app and the OS X counterpart are the same. It also doesn't automatically render this app "crap". If someone wants to pay $30 for it, then that's their choice.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I suppose that there are some graphics or advert folks that might actually find this beneficial but 99.9 % of screen shot needs can be managed by ⌘ + ⇧ + 4... People are free (for now) to decide how they want to spend their money but this is not the first time I've seen something like this. Perhaps people are just lazy and don't do any research? Not sure but for someone who actually has a use for irregular screen shots, someone provides an app for that !

Most dedicated screenshot utilities do a LOT more than just the basic Command-Shift-3 and Command-Shift-4 functions. It's about personal needs. Some users only need the basic screenshot functions of OS X, but others might need a bit more and don't want to have to open 2-3 apps just to get the results they're looking for. As with anything in life, there are those of us who don't mind paying a little more for convenience.

I had never heard of MacZot, thanks to your post here I now know of it and as of 5 seconds ago I've now subscribed to it. I had thought MacUpdate was the only place of its kind out there that provides discounts on software the way that it does, through daily emails. It's places like MacUpdate that also alerts me to software programs for the Mac that I didn't know even existed. Thanks so much!
