Window Tidy lets you take control of all your applications. How many times have you had to keep switching between documents when you wished you could just see them all at the same time? The process of dragging and resizing these windows manually is very fiddly and time consuming. And then when you're done, you've got to move them all back!

Features

Take Control of your Desktop - Arrange your application windows using nothing but drag-and-drop! There are no hot-keys to remember or menus to click, just drag-anddrop a window onto layout icon and it will instantly snap to that layout.
Highly Customizable - The behavior and appearance of Window Tidy are highly customizable to streamline your individual workflow. You can create any number of layouts, each with its own grid size.
Quick Layout - If you want to apply a custom layout to a window you can use Quick Layout to quickly drag the grid area you want the active window to occupy, and when you release the mouse button, the layout is applied.
Multiple Monitors - Windows can be moved onto a new monitor and have a layout applied in one simple drag-and-drop movement. If a window is lost on another screen, one click will send it immediately to the current screen.

2.1.x of Window Tidy is an excellent window organizing and docking app, which is what my star rating is based on. HOWEVER, the developer has just transitioned the app to a new version and name ("Mosaic") which appears to include a monthly subscription fee. I say "appears" because nowhere on their website, their literature, etc. are any details on cost or subscription prices shown. There are only links to download a free 7 day trial, within which the user still cannot get any additional information without signing in with a user account (I refuse to). Why are they hiding the costs of this new version???

version 2.1.3 is available at the Mac App Store, while version 2.1.2 is available both here (at MacUpdate), as well as at the developer's site.

Dear MacUpdate: According to the developers web site http://www.lightpillar.com/window-tidy.html the application is now at version 2..1.2 and requires Mac OS 10.9. Now I;m not sure why i have a paid subscription with MacUpdate when the information MacUpdate can not be relied upon.

Great app, use it very frequently! Unfortunally since I updated to Lion 10.7.3 Window Tidy crashes silently in the background and needs to quit and started again. Hope this will be fixed soon, since this is one of my most frequently used apps! Keep up the good work!

i really like this app. I've tried most of the window-resizing apps and this one just fits my style. i use my macbook a lot for school and have to fit word documents and powerpoints on a single screen often. it's very cumbersome having to drag windows around with a small trackpad. the drag-and-drop option is amazingly efficient. the only thing I'd like to have added is the option to change the background of the re-size screens within the app. for example, i wanted the screens to be a solid grey. i had to find a wallpaper that matched what i wanted, download it, set it as my wallpaper, change it within the app, and then remove and replace it with my old wallpaper. not a huge problem but a lot more steps than needed, i feel. it's a shame there aren't any demos available currently. it's really something that needs to be experienced to see if it fits. it sounds like the dev is working on that so hang tight and give it a try.

I tried Grid and it works great. And for free. Also Size Well is another great and free aproach to windows resizing.
