    Version 1.0.3:
    • Fixed a bug that prevented the app from working on Mac's without batteries, i.e., desktop Macs. (This bug was introduced when the battery threshold feature was introduced. Since desktop Macs don't have batteries the routine the keeps the computer awake was not running.)
    • You can specify the time to quit in minutes rather than hours.
    • Updated the UI for clarity.
    Requirements
Intel, OS X 10.6.6 or later

Thanks for pointing that out, Schmye-Bubbula! Though the developer's site says the minimum is OS X 10.4.4, the information in the application limits it to installation on OS X 10.6.6 or later on Intel architecture. I've changed the requirements accordingly.

MacUpdate-Jess, perhaps half of all of MacUpdate listings have the system requirements wrong. It's so bad that I routinely have to visit the developers' websites because MacUpdate cannot be trusted. It matters not to me whether MacUpdate or the developer is responsible for getting the system requirements right; in any event, MacUpdate needs to impose stringent requirements on developers on getting it right or else they won't be allowed to post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This app was written for musicians for when they use their computers to read music as they play their instruments and don't want their computer to go to sleep.

What can NoSleep do for me?

  • Keep you computer awake for a given period of time.

NoSleep updates system activity periodically as soon as it launches, until it is quit, or the battery charge level drops below a specified amount (which defaults to 10%)

  • Wake your computer at a specified time.

NoSleep can be used to wake your computer on a one time basis at a specifc date and time.

As soon as you launch NoSleep it prevents your computer from sleeping until quit, or the battery charge level drops below a specified amount . You can schedule the time it quits so that you can leave it unattended. Do this in Preferences.

Additionally you can launch NoSleep, force the computer to sleep, and then have NoSleep automatically wake the computer and still quit at the specified time. This feature requires that NoSleep runs as root, which can be accomplished using our app Chalaut, a "run as root" app launcher. Do this in Preferences.

    Preferences Window:

Using the Preference pane to specify quit time and wake time you can keep your computer awake for a specific interval of time.

Also use the text field on the preferences window for creating a timer to quit the app at a time you can specify as a (fractional) number of hours. The timer is created as soon as you change the value of the text field, and each change resets the timer. If the value of the text field is zero no such timer is created, and any previous such timer will be removed.

Finally, in preferences you can specify a battery threshold so that NoSleep stops keeping the computer awake at a certain level. This helps prevent the Mac from running out of energy when unplugged.
