I bought this application today. This is the ONLY program that captures video on ALL sites I've visited so far. I could even capture live streams of the Persian BBC which was not possible before. The DEMO version is very limited and doesn't show all its capabilities. Users who experience partial downloads should know that the demo version doesn't allow complete downloads. Despite a few tiny bugs I think it's the best video capturer I've ever bought. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Rejoyce ! Finally, FLV spider can keep recording until the end of the movies (no more partially downloaded films). It makes it, by far, the best app in its category. I must admit that this LVSpider's developers have been working continuously to correct the many limits and drawbacks of FLV Spider. They have now achieved a truly efficient app. Future improvements, won't be so dramatic but they may still be welcome, for instance : - the capacity to start the copy from somewhere in the course of the movie (not necessarily at the beginning) - the possibility to opt for a direct download from a window's link (when available), as with iTubeDownloader or MpegStreamclip Congratulations for the good job. Please ensure that future updates do not ruin the present achievement (a possible issue because FLVSpider's updates automatically destroy the previously installed version).

Still stopping after a few minutes with the same cryptic message "Partially downloaded". It happens even when the site's window where the movie is played stays on top. Grrrrrrrr !

Hi everybody. Good news from http://home.flvspider.com. The developer upgrades free of charge all promotion versions of FLV Spider (which did not have the update function)! After upgrading FLV Spider to v3.1.20 I found that the program has become more stable. Now it works fine. I think that in terms of ease of use and quality the new version of FLV Spider works better than a program like Wondershare AllMyTube for Mac. In any case, all the sites I tried, I was able to download the video, but the program Wondershare AllMyTube for Mac sometimes refused to download videos.

Works only for some short films and some sites. Stops prematurely when the copy takes more than 15 minutes. It could be due to a failure in FLV's cache management, or FLV'sunability to update the connection when required by the site (including YouTube). Who knows? The error message(s) is totally worthless. In addition, when it stops prematurely FLV Spider cannot restart from where it stopped and - often - cannot even restart from the beginning. Lots of time lost without any hint to face the problem. IShowU is much more reliable but it must remain on top of the screen when it is operated. operating.

I'm the techie in my firm where our Chief Investment Strategist frequently interviewed by CNBC. They button up their flash videos and my firm needs a copy of these appearances. FLV Spider is a godsend! Not only is the software functional, intuitive and reliable their tech support is responsive. I didn't read the directions. We used to call that "RTFM" when I was a beta tester. It's sometimes a recipe for frustration but the folk at FLV Spider overlooked it and helped me over my ignorance with patience and understanding. To top it all off, I see from other reviews the updates are free and relatively frequent. All in all, an excellent tool.

Works pretty darn well. Just a hats off to the author, following a hard drive crash I needed to re-install, emailed the author and received a fairly prompt reply, sorting me out. Makes a nice change from dealing with some of the big boys, who you can wait sometimes days for an answer. Top marks for customer care.

Instruction: Please copy the code above (select all 24 symbols of the code by mouse and then press Cmd+C key combination) and paste it into "Activation Code" input box of the "Activate Now!" dialogue. Then click "Activate" button. My question: Where is the "Activate Now" dialogue?

Not sure what utility this has. You can capture FLV and a lot of other formats using the DownloadHelper plug-in in FireFox. You get a whole lot more flexibility in what you DL and how. The ability to trim the video is available in the latest QT.

Version 3.0.8 works with youtube.com again! Previous version had some troubles with capture from youtube. So, update is really worth of doing. New version also supports HD videos at vimeo.com. HD videos are saved in MP4 which I can copy to my HD video player without any conversion. It's just what I need.

I have bought FLV Spider pro several years ago and I appreciate its free updates. Some interface improvements have been made, like showing an image of each file being downloaded. However, they have slowed the capture considerably, resulting in a lot of perplexity trying to guess whether the capture is working or not. Unfortunately, FLV's rate of capture failure is still high (about 1/3 in my case). So failures + delayed/incomplete information about the capture rapidly become a pain i.t.a. But there is a domain where FLV is at the top of the "progress" : its anti-pirate procedures. A registred user cannot FLV Spider on two machines, without going through the whole licensing procedure (which includes emails more or less rapidly sent by FLV and more or less accessible by the registrated user). Indeed, FLV checks your machine number (hardware ID), thus making it extremely cumbersome that a same registred consumer changes the machine on which he wants to use his paid licence. So if you plan to use FLV on two different machines (eg a station and a laptop when you travel), be ready to repetitive and sometimes cumbersome registrations). If I had understood that FLV is limited to one machine, instead of one user, I should not have bought it.

I have been looking for software to download video from Canadian TV stations (CBC and CTV) for a very long time, and this is the only one I have found that works. And it seems to work well. I would suggest the developer add a tag or statement that it works on Canadian sites, because I am not the only one in Canada searching for this. One small complaint, it cuts off the last second or two of the video, but this isn't a big deal. Very happy with this, thanks very much.

Last version works for MP4 videos, originally recorded by iPhone 4S, supports some advanced MP4 features like frame flipping. And it captures some youtube movies which old version didn't, at least for me.

This tool breaks its competitors, as it is universal flash video grabber. It works with any browser and any flash video web site. I used it at gbtv.com and few other sites with live video. It saves in MP4, which are compliant my hardware video player. This tool really does what it declares! The only I could suggest is to add WMV video capture. Many sites use this format. Therefore I've set four for features.

I'm giving this product a one-star review. Here's why. FLV Spider allows you to save flash videos, but all the while it saves them in its cache. If you want the video deleted from the cache, it wants you to pay for the pro version! What if you download something that you don't want others to run across? You have to PAY THEM to delete a file from your own computer? I would call this unethical at best. Extortion at worst. If you're in a situation where FLV spider has video files it won't let you delete, do the following. 1. Open terminal and type "lsof" (minus quotes.) 2. Search through the output (You may want to copy the output from terminal into a text editor.) for a path starting with "/private/var/folders/" After that, you'll see what appear to be many random characters, but toward the end, you'll see "/com.mp3flv.flvspider/" At the very end of the path, you'll see ".flv" 3. Copy the entire path. It will probably look something like this: /private/var/folders/5x/n00hxp2rddz0d93ieud50x_h0000gn/T/com.mp3flv.flvspider/cap/templwJi.flv 4. Then, using terminal, type "rm" and paste your whole path to the file. Then press enter. That will remove the cached file that FLV spider wants you to pay to be able to remove. I'm disgusted by this. And I can tell you this: anyone who would make their software work in this manner will never see one penny of my money. >:-(

Capturing RTMP streams isn't working for me. I followed all of the documentation and can see a stream building in Packet Peeper which has the features described in the help file (destination port 1935, source being my computer, etc.) but PP never shows the save dialog title of "Save RTMP Stream As...". It only ever says "Save Stream As...". But even if I did get a valid stream saved, there seems to be no way for FLV Spider to open it. The menu option in the File menu is completely absent. Is this a Pro-only feature? There is nothing to indicate this in the help file and it looks like the Pro features are normally indicated by a grayed-out menu item. Has anyone else tried it successfully?

BEWARE: this app is proposing an online update that destroys the previous version, then it asks for an activation code that was not provided (at least when purchasing version 2) and is pretendedly sent by email (address not recalled nor modifiable) after typing the reference order number. Then, when this reference is typed, the activation code is NOT emailed (at least within hours) and FLV becomes inaccessible. Once again this developer beats records in terms of security paranoia at the expense of users.

Replying to all those, who complains for inability of some videos downloading - FLV Spider works with ANY websites, like YouTube.com, where live streaming is not used for the video delivery. You can easily understand if you're watching a live stream or not. Just take a look at the progress indicator of the web player. If you see that downloaded percentage is going ahead of the playback position, then this is not a live stream. In such case FLV Spider can be used. Vast majority of social websites do not use live streaming. As for problems with video capturing in version 2.0.2 and 2.0.3, those problems were caused by new versions of Flash Player, where Flash Video was cached in a different way. Latest Flash Player 10.2 also has changes, which should be reflected in the FLV Spider. New FLV Spider 2.0.4 works with Flash Player 10.2 correctly. FLV Spider was tested with both Safari, FireFox and Chrome and works with all of them. We appreciate any bug/problem reports, they will help us to keep the software up to date. Thanks to all users of FLV Spider!

Version 2.0.3 is more than a "minor user interface improvement", as it allows again multiple simultaneous downloads. As a result the add which were downloaded INSTEAD of the movie sought are no longer a fatal nuisance. I should advice to change asap from version 2.0.2 to 2.0.3, and to do it following the procedure started with the "help" menu. Otherwise, the new version may not worked as expected.

I used to be satisfied with this app for the .flv files (note that unlike suggested in the presentation, FLV does not work with other frequent short streaming movie formats like f4v, wmv and mp4). "Satisfied" means that, unlike its competitors, FLVspider was not a total failure with sites other than YouTube. Unfortunately during the last months there has been less and less websites compatible with FLVspider. Now, FLVS fails with 90% of the sites I am trying to use it in. It can no longer download several movies simultaneously and I have to relaunch it whenever I wish to download another movie. Worse, instead of downloading the film I am viewing, FLVS starts downloading automatically the short add movies surrounding the film I view. The lack of a relevant window preview makes it impossible to see what is actually downloaded. To sum, this app has become such a pain that I prefer using a movie capture app like iShowU. After testing the latest release (2.0.2) and seen how little the "improvements" were, I guess that the concept of an app that can download the ".flv" movies has definitely been ruined by the sites efforts to impede downloading their streaming films. However, this review was made using the latest Camino version. Perhaps, FLV spider could be less catastrophic with other browsers.

My apologies to the developer--software development does take work, but here's how I download online video using Safari's built in features. 1) click online video to begin playing 2) open Safari Activity window (under the window menu) 3) look for the largest file size, and you should see it progressively loading, for example 4 MB of 38 MB -- click on the item to highlight and then copy that item (command C) 4) go to the downloads window (under the window menu)and paste (command V) That's it, you will see the video downloading. You can then close the primary window leaving just the download. Daniel M. Dreifus ThousandEveryDay.com

FLV Spider is brilliant for accessing .flv clips in almost every site, but it has a completely lousy interface.Concerning FLV. Lots of important things need to be fixed: - The preview does not work, a most annoying thing when several clips are downloaded simultaneously (it usually happens because of the adds surrounding the clip to download). The user simply cannot know what the downloading lines in FLV Spider's window are corresponding to. At least, the names of the downloading clips should be recalled in FLV Spider's window. - The large view does not work most of the time (using a new Mac Book Pro with the latest OS X update and 2G of memory) - The cursor to view a given part of a downloaded clip does not work at all (remains stuck at the end of the trail) - A warning/security should prevent stopping prematurely a downloading (eg when a link is accidentally clicked on the same window as the clip being downloaded). At least, it should be possible to complete (not totally reload) an interrupted download. - A way to avoid downloading the .flv adds surrounding the targeted clip would be most useful. When a guaranteed credit card payment is used, the seller should not wait until the payment is actually made for sending the PW.

It is the only app that works. MacTubes, for instance, fails almost everywhere. BUT the payment is very cumbersome and you have to wait 24 hours before you receive the ID and PW. This happens even though you ordered through a very secure process (eg Visa) To eventually get the ID and PW of what you have ordered, you must : 1. enter your card data and numbers 2. wait for the bank to call and give you an authorization number 3. forward this number to the German society that manages the order 4. get approved (and greeted) by this German firm and "win" an additional number (the "order number") 5. waiiiiiit, until somebody eventually mails you the ID and PW for this 19$ applications. 6. Wonder if these regressive bureaucrats are aware of what "high speed" and internet are meant to be.
