I owned both OmmWriter and OmmBits. Both are working very fine. But, there is always "a but", unfortunately there is a surprisingly annoying method on how to re-download (in case you uninstalled it for some reasons) or update it. The most painful one is when you want to update this app. No link, no notification, nothing. I've emailed the Dev several times and they told me that they will inform through email. Nothing. So, annoying. But I want to emphasi here that the app itself is working very fine. I can say, excellent.

"Developer website: Herraiz Soto & Co." — That link leads to:
http://www.ommwriter.com/en/ = "404 Not Found".

I bought version 1.52 from the developer almost two years ago. How I can update to version 1.57 without buying it anew from the App Store is a great mystery.

WTF? You can't use the app without an account anymore? And the pages with terms and conditions and the statetements on privacy are missing. Does the developer really think that this generates trust? There's no information what the account is used for.

OmmWriter Version1.50 — Updated 23 Jun 2017 — Only external purchase. I went to the developer's home page http://www.ommwriter.com/ where the price is not $6.99 but a minimum of $7.11 and I paid that price because I prefer to buy directly and not through the App Store when possible. So they sent me Version 1.30 dated December 5, 2012, where there is no option "Check for updates". I feel I have been cheated!

This simple app keeps me writing, makes me *want* to journal, and in the meditative journaling, my life is noticeably better. Really. Simply taking time daily to write, to reflect, to appreciate does improve my life. This app makes me WANT to write... and I've been at it now for a month when, for years previously, I *intended* to write but never found the time. LOVE the included music. Some users are dismayed that the old music is no longer available with Ommwriter. I thought the same at first and purchased the old music online to play while using Ommwriter. Nope. After just one night, the old music, while nice, seemed to synthesized. Instead, the included peaceful environmental music is perfect. The only drawback is that this app is so conducive to putting me into a good writing place that I end up writing longer than intended. I also really miss the Ommwriting process if I miss a day or two. For the price of a coffee or two, you can't buy a better program for simple journaling - pure journaling. You can't go wrong if you have been wanting to journal but just couldn't do it. I now look forward to writing and the act of writing has made my life better. Simple, silly perhaps, and true.

Ommwriter opens new potential to writing with fewer distractions and increased concentration. The UI is very clean and easy to use. Depending on who you are, these functions may be enough for you. However, there is room for improvement, and this app alone might not be enough as it is now. The first thing that should be improved is a refined UI. The sidebar should be put somewhere above that doesn't limit or distract writing. Currently, it is on the right, and there is no option of resizing it past its 4-inch margins. Another part of the UI that should change is the line grid that appears just for scrolling. With it disappearing and reappearing, it becomes odd. An extra feature that should be added is mini tabs. This will help work with projects for school and such. By having this environment with extra spaces (to replace actual desktop spaces) I won't have to go left or right to read what I need to do. With just those two changes, this app would be perfect. However, there are more optional changes if you'd like to gain a wider number of users. Theme sets. Different fonts, sound sets, colored text, etc. For example, the current version would be one theme. Each theme would have different backgrounds and stuff. I would highly recommend integrating this with the music and such, perhaps a changing theme as well. (it helps me not daydream XD) I think that the 3 most powerful things of this app are: fullscreen with a light background meditative music and sounds well-balanced colors. The things that are most lacking are: A distraction-free UI. More backgrounds, music and sounds. Colorful fonts and spellcheck.

Could there be some more positive backgrounds added, like flowers? I'm kinda wondering about the amount of resources it uses too. I mean, it doesn't feel very friendly :/ it's like I can't breathe. This app is a really neat idea, not sure if I can recommend it tho

5 stars because it is just awesome. I wrote a lot since I bought the program, most of the time in very noisy areas (train station, train). I just plug my earphones in and I am in another world. Twice I forgot to leave the train to university at the right station, because I was so into writing.

when i bought my first mac in 2010 (a 27' i7 iMac) Ommwriter was the app which confirmed all what i've been experiencing on the mac side, the striking attention to detail which i love in Apple's design philosophy, simplicity with zen-like elegance. or elegance with zen-like simplicity. whatever. Ommwriter, my first love (among apps), i'll never forget ya! :) kudos to the developer!!!

As someone who purchased this app when it was fairly new, I am perplexed by how it can be updated. There is no option to update the app from within Ommwriter and communication with the developer is, at best, spotty. So for those considering buying Ommwriter, be warned that free updates may not be possible. Personally, I found the sounds and ambient melodies only briefly interesting. If I want to listen to something when I write, and I write a lot, I prefer choosing my own music. But I can see the appeal of Ommwriter. I think for it to be a serious contender in the crowded "distraction-free" writing environment, it needs to have mark-down incorporated within the app with an option for html copy. The version of Ommwriter I own, Dana II, lacks that feature.

I'm giving it a particularly high rating to balance out a 0.5 rating that seems to be grousing because of the purported lack of support. It works as advertised, providing a distraction-free and mellow writing environment. I guess one can call it pretentious or even hoaky, but it does provide a nice writing experience -- as other reviewers have attested to. The MU download appears to be the free trial version (Dana I) that the developer's site discusses; this has about 40% of the features/bells and whistles of the pay-for version (Dana II). I think there are a few text editors that give similar distraction-free environments, there are also a few that provide typing sound effects, and certainly one can provide one's self ambient music, but this is a very convenient/non-hassle all-in-one package to do the same. I would think that for the extended/pay-for version of this application, it would be nice to be able to load one's own choice of backgrounds, music and typing sound effects. Think it would get a lot more buyers that way. I do heartily recommend to anyone remotely curious about it to try out the MU download version just to see if you like it. Basically there's no learning curve: all the options/features are unassumingly provided to the right of the text box, and there aren't a lot of them. See if it floats your boat. Also, I like the fact that the developer's webpage provides a choice of background colors for the site. The developer definitely has a graphic designer's sensibility, which manifests itself in the app.

Can't believe that the developer just abandoned this app. There are issues with this and its iPad version, and the developer either tells users to utilize a workaround, or takes way too long to update it.

Very elegant text editor. But really hope it could support dropbox sync and blog export. It's been a year since the last update.

Well, this tool does what it says... Nothing really new, here... But Ommwriter is a bit "pretentious", too "glossy" for me. I prefer Bean's full screen feature. I can choose my colors and I'm not limited to various Fengshui background colors. The keyboard sounds are great, though. Strangely, they really help me concentrate.

This is a very clean and elegant text editor. Its fullscreen mode, graphics and soothing sounds help getting in the mood of writing. Though I don't like that I'm forced to work in fullscreen mode (or am I missing anything here?) which I don't always prefer. Anyway, if you're looking for a simple and minimalist distraction free writing app, Ommwriter is an excellent choice. If it wasn't for Byword this was my text editor of choice as well.

I don't usually write reviews, or write them so quickly, but I tried this today and bought it after working with the demo for 15 minutes. It is perfect for what it is and for its simplicity. Like another reviewer here, I write for publishing, but unlike him, I like this for what it is. True, it's not a word processor. It's more a thought processor and that's what I want. When done, you can save in the native format, or export to PDF, TXT or RTF when you're ready to process it in Word or another app. I wanted something like myTexts but without the sudden crashing (thank God myTexts had auto-save). Today I looked around after two crashes with myTexts, and OMM. What else can I say? Thanks to the developers for a really thoughtful app. You don't need to do more to it. Keep it simple. But that said, how about a pure black background, or dark gray? I will donate more money to you soon, as soon as some of my writing assignments pay off. Thanks!

I've been experimenting with Ommwriter for about a week. I've been using it to create blog posts at my site (liberationfromthelie.com) and to write sections of my next book. Like one other reviewer here, I was initially put off by the total absence of formatting capabilities and was considering going back to conventional authoring software. But the more I used Ommwriter, the more I just loved it. Yes, the absence of these features does cause some 'backend' labor with a formal word processor, but the writing environment is so unique that is has shown me that it has once decisive quality that all of the other word processors lack; an ability to access a different part of my creative being. And this is just amazing. I don't think it will work for most people and perhaps for only some people, but those for whom it will "work", for those people, it will be a godsend.

LOVE IT. It's like WriteRoom while watching a Scandinavian art film. The sounds are great, and thank goodness you can't format or print or anything from it! It's about writing!

I love the clean, uncluttered screen and the minimalist design. But I don't write for entertainment; I write to publish, to print, and to e-mail. This app allows none of that. Neither does it allow any formatting. No indenting, no centering. It is similarly limited in its ability to read and save files (text only). To actually use this app, you have to save your work, then import the text data into another word processor for formatting and printing. If you only want to write a haiku or two a week while being entranced by the audio and visual treats, this app is for you. If you want to write, well, maybe a future version will include some practical features.

I don't know how some ideas dawn on developers but this one is surely divine! This program has the simplest interface and the most superb sounds among similar applications to allow users a total concentration and relax. It has practically no troublesome tools to hinder your writing or distract your attention. Its hand-written type of font with its special drawing feature that mimics a real pen's footprint is second to none. I do look forward to seeing its future releases.
