Media management and presentation.

Overview

nessViewer is the all-round media application to edit, browse, collect and arrange, present, transfer and stream media. It combines media player, media center, media server, media editor and preview tool.

The main idea is to use only one media application instead of switching between several applications like DVD Player, Front Row, iPhoto, iTunes, Photos App, Safari, QuickTime Player and Preview. And to combine the most important features of these applications with further functionality.

nessViewer supports the following media: DVDs, pictures, movies / videos, media shows (storable playlists) and portable documents (PDFs). Movies and videos are playable in all common formats (like AVI, DivX, MKV, MPEG4) thru the QuickTime extensions Flip4Mac and Perian. Beside these supported media, the media center also allows it to access EyeTV movies, Aperture / iPhoto / Photos App media like images and videos, iTunes media including bought or rented movies (DRM) and Miro video podcasts (RSS). Furthermore media server, DLNA client browser, and media center allows it to access media via network:

  • Thru the media server and the free nessViewer app for iOS devices, media can be transferred and streamed between Mac and iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. FTP and HTTP are used as protocol, and even DVDs and EyeTV movies can be streamed from Mac to iOS.
  • Thru the DLNA client browser and the media center, many media servers like DS214play, Plex, PS3, Serviio, Twonky or XBMC UPnP and NAS volumes can be accessed and their media (videos and pictures) presented.

What's new in nessViewer

Pretty good app for making a presentation. I have used it only several times and suppose it's one of the best media apps. I find nessViever helpful especcialy for making a presentation colorful and bright. If you would like to impress the audience with powerful images in your slides, then choose this app.

After some learning process now my favorite app - the complexity is at the beginning a little bit confusing (lower rating for that), but once you understand the way to deal with the various modules ... So easy I could not cut my videos before, the playlists with a map of my pictures taken simply makes fun, the media center is not only replacing Front Row but still offers even more and is just as easy, and with the media server I can watch my movies and DVDs on the iPad without any manual conversion. Simply great!

Yesterday I saw another "Video Server Application" at the MacUpdate page and thought: well, give it a trial. It has 5 stars, hundreds of downloads - I can not be wrong to download and test this software. After several hours I am updated: yes, I can be wrong! May be it is my fault (and I do not want to complain about other apps) - but what I like is the idea of ONE application. ONE user interface (Mac like if possible). ONE support. ONE trial. Even it takes some time to get the idea.

Since a long time I use nessViewer and it’s amazing. Mostly I use the module media center. I’m very happy, that sound bug is fixed; now DTS works perfectly. I can watch my movies and photos easily with the remote control; it’s good for lazy people like me. Together with a DynDNS and the nessViewer App all my media are available everywhere. 39.00 € is a fair price for a program with so much functions.

nessViewer is much more than just a media center: media editing, media arrangement (playlists), media server (including AirPlay support), integrated web browser... But we listen and will offer "nessMediaCenter" soon which integrates only the media center and will cost less than $10. No comments about Plex - it was one reason to develop nessViewer.

Hi Jeff, i am a nessviewer user and i can say, nessViewer is a software with many integrated functions. They all work perfectly. It is much, much more then a "media center". Test it and you will see that 50$ is a good investment if you want or need this functionality.

Unfortunately our last reply to your 4 posts has been removed. We are very much interested in user feedback, but can not understand your post... After your first post we tried to explain that nessViewer is much more that just a media center. It is kind of an allround media application to edit, browse, collect and arrange, present, transfer and stream media. Your are comparing apples and oranges - or can you modify (cut & copy /join / convert / rotate) videos with your favorite application? Just to give one example… But we are listening and we offered another application with just a media center (named nessMediaCenter) for less than €10. It would be much more helpful for us if you would write a review instead of just complaining the price again and again.

$99? That is what you paid two years later - for a Apple TV (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27302/plex-home-theater). It seems to me that Plex is not working as you expected - after years of "messing around".

"Get Plex...its free and it works." Yes, it does. If that's all that you need and all that you want. OTOH, have you ever heard the expression, "Dime wise and dollar foolish"? Do you understand the difference between a Timex and a Rolex?

The discussion was with Jeff, who complained that a media center costs $40 (OMG $50). And that Plex is free and it works - and then after 2 years he bought an AppleTV. His own comment: "... messing around..." Yes, it might be that Plex is working. In fact - in my opinion - it offers some great features. And loses in some others, particularly in keeping data private. Which can be discussed somewhere else. I wish I could understand you comments: how does "Dime wise and dollar foolish" or "the difference between a Timex and a Rolex" help people to find software they are searching for?

Jeesh, you'd think a developer selling a $40 app would invest in some native English copy editing. The description of this app is unintelligible.

After comparing the common media centers I came to the conclusion that nessViewer is the best media center. But not "only" a media center - with nessViewer I can also edit my media (like cutting or joining videos), convert my videos for my iPod touch and collect links to internet videos in playlists (called media shows). At http://www.mac-media-center.com I wrote a review and tutorial - check it out!

A very felicitous application which combines the management of music, media and presentations. You can watch documentations of tv channels via internet, live streams and you can do it all on your coach by remote control.

Hi, this software is the one i looked for. To manage all my media with ONE software was my goal and nessviewer manages this job very good. The media center allows me to watch all my videos, movies and my own generated presentations ( nessviewer calls this "media show") from my sofa. Real home entertainment with my apple remote control or with my iPhone using the NV remote app. Absolutly great. LouisK
