As a songwriter I have been looking for a rhyming dictionary that can find family rhymes for the longest time. From a creative standpoint this software is second to none. It would be better without the activation and the app takes a while to start up but it is still a great tool.

As a long time user I don't find Rhyme Genie's activation as painful as Lord-Lighting. You only have to drag the activation code file to the desktop and start Rhyme Genie to automatically activate it. Updates have always been free and can be activated with the same code. Changing hard drives has no effect on Rhyme Genie in any way. Granted, you still have to get a new code if you buy a new computer but you get 3 activation codes with each serial number anyhow. Competing rhyming dictionaries like MasterWriter and ThoughtOffice are substantially more expensive, haven't been updated in years, do not run on iOS and more importantly cannot match the accuracy of Rhyme Genie's intelligent rhyme. Nor do they or any other online rhyming dictionary offer syllable matching synonyms, a dedicated songwriter dictionary, integrated song titles, word filters and all the features that the free sidekick 'TuneSmith' provides.

Can't rate v5 - but only because Idolumic say "An activation code is linked to a specific computer and cannot be transferred. This is not meant to be mean spirited in any way." Ha Ha - a smiling assassin. I am unable to update to v5 without paying for another license and I can't even use v4 on my new computer - I paid for it too. Beware. Draw your own conclusions. I strongly recommend evaluating ThoughtOffice.

Versions, 3, then 4 and now 5 and the activation system is still CIA and FBI stringent. Boy, are these guys anxious. If you have a hard drive crash or swap your hard drive over or change computers between downloads of versions you will cop an extra fee just to use an app you have already paid for. The app is tied to the NIC address and your computer ID (hard drive) serial number, so if they change you pay extra. Just plain creepy and a little bit sick and very tight-arsed - but the app is brilliant so I just bit the bullet. Not happy though, I hate getting ripped off. If I pay for something I feel entitled to use it as I see fit. What do they think - I can use the app on two computers at the same time?

Well, as I said below in response to Ravenwolf, this is the Ant's Pants of rhyming tools. But I have just had to download a 248.7MB file for v3.3 after I had just done the same thing a week ago for v3.2. Why? For an update to the clipboard functionality. Why doesn't Rhyme Genie let me just update the core app for little fixes like this? Oh dear, now I have to activate it. Blimey - there goes another morning.

I downloaded the demo and installed it. The first time I opened it, my Mac errored and did not open it (newer imac with 10.6.5). So I opened it again and the program's screen lost all of the information (not my mac screen, just the program's screen), so I started it yet again. On the third attempt I typed in testing and then beautiful, and I started to really look through the words it was offering, anal was offered as a song rhyme for beautiful! And the other rhymes were not inspiring at all (even though I guess "technically" correct). I went to shut down the program and it locked up, I had to open Activity monitor and force quit. Needless to say I uninstalled this and won't look back. Bummer, looked promising, but at least I won't have to go through that annoying activation process everyone is referring to! Bonus! :P. I'm new to macupdate, and have received some cool software from this service, but I am learning you need to read the reviews and pick and choose carefully, because there are some lemons amongst the fruits to choose from.

I will write a full review of this software once I actually get my activation code and can use it in non-demo mode. However, if I had know this software had this sort of activation scheme, I would never have bought it in the first place. I would recommend finding something else based on the activation mechanism alone.

Checked out a demo of the software and was fairly impressed. The price isn't an issue to me, but the online activation is really unfortunate. I have no desire to pirate software, or to give software to other people that I've paid for with my hard-earned money. I respect that piracy is a problem, but I don't like paying the penalty for it when I don't do it. I try to avoid apps that require activation beyond a simple serial number.

i would love to have this in my songwriters toolbox (on iphone as well, by the way). and i deeply appreciate how much work must have gone into making it. but the price is too high for me. i want the developer to make his/her money back and continue development, but i would rather use the free online sites and my rhyming dictionaries (they're super-small and handy).

I'd love to try this out but cannot imagine downloading a 219mb application, let alone one that is just a rhyming dictionary! Can the developer please explain why it is so LARGE?
