DuplicateFilesDeleter is excellent for removing duplicated files or even for finding. You can try DuplicateFilesDeleter

I've only tested this once, after first using Singlemizer, to cleanse various files in one folder. It seems to me that Araxis found additional duplicates and removed them successfully without removing originals. However, I didn't monkey with the Singlemizer tuners and perhaps didn't have the resolution turned as high as Araxis' default. I'm happy enough with both, although simpler interfaces for Araxis would be cool.

I installed Lion today and at that point I realized I was running out of space on my HD. I have a 600GB hard drive. Somehow multiple icon images from some program invaded all user profiles on the machine, and (annoyingly) showed up in iPhoto. Literally at least 10,000 duplicates. I went and looked for software and this one came up, but had no reviews. I want to allay Anyones fear about this product. Not only did it do the job, but I made it switch between user profiles at the same time and it still did the job. Of course, the software has no way of knowing which version you want, if at all, so there is user intervention. But as far as usability, permissions and such, this was a total champ. Thank you Araxis for producing an excellent product.

Changes in this release: *When the filesystem root (/) is in the list of folders to be scanned, FDF will no longer scan /Volumes and /dev. To scan a mounted volume, add it to the list of folders to be scanned. [I11815] *It now takes much less time to save a large set of scan results, and to open such previously saved results. As a result of this change, scan results saved with this version of FDF cannot be opened by earlier versions of FDF. [I12045] *The FDF application icon is in the new Araxis product family style. [I11883, I11905] *The serial number support expiry notification will now appear briefly whenever the application starts, until it is expressly dismissed. Previously, it appeared only once every 30 days and was therefore easy to miss. [I11475] *The notification messages that appear in the bottom left of the screen now show for slightly longer than before. [I12057] *The alignment of a check box on the Preferences… > Notifications page has been corrected. [I12062] *A typographical error has been fixed in the online help. [I11954]

Well, unlike the current version of Decloner, it doesn't crash on me so that's a good thing. The GUI is spartan but functional. You're better off if you zoom the window and expand the location column. Alas, they have chosen the gear icon to open preferences. In my book, the gear icon is supposed to be used for contextual menus but at least on those cases there's a down arrow with the gear. But that's trivial. One annoyance is if you click one of the rows in the middle list of dupes you cannot drag-select the dupe files shown in the bottom pane. You must shift-click. The single focus of this app is to find duplicate files. It found many for me, but alas, no count is shown on the GUI. It*seemed* to run quickly but typically you'll have to walk away while any similar app runs. The biggest problem I found is it does not clearly display the duplicates! Currently, it is showing me two music files side-by-side that it considers dupes. Unlike the rest of the files, it is only showing one row in the list for each of the two dupes. If I click on that one row, two files appear in the bottom section. Very confusing and makes me wonder if I can trust it. All the other dupe pairs+ have multiple rows. It's showing a single music file in a row later. This concerns me when the removal button is called "Delete Selected Items". For that reason, I did not test the delete function. If nothing else, the Location column has to reflect the different pathing for each of the files. I've been trying to stick to only apps that use SHA1 (which you can test using the terminal command: openssl dgst -sha1 fullfilepath-use-drag-and-drop I'm not sure if this app uses SHA1 or not. It does show a hash (like you'd get from a dgst) in a column. This could be md5 which has been proven to be unreliable (see Security Now podcast). Others use SHA1. Thanks for the lower price but I'm thinking there are better options elsewhere.

I tend to agree that Araxis' programs are expensive. They do offer an attractive educational discount, although not on this program. Also, they are REALLY good applications. At $20, this is their cheapest program. Tidy Up, for example, is $30. FileBuddy is $40 and has a myriad of features including finding duplicate files. Great program. Overall I like Araxis FDF, but there's room for improvement: 1. Some file types are not recognized (e.g., text clippings, XMind documents, etc.). File Buddy had no problem with these files. On the other hand, FDF found many images from OMNI Graffle files, and FB did not. 2. The font size seems too small. 3. It does not have many preference, so it does not allow for much customization. I did like the preview of the files, and managed to get rid of many duplicates I had in one folder and various sub-folders. The process was slow since I would not let FDF automatically choose which files to remove, but just from that folder containing mostly PDF files I got rid of 1.2 GB of duplicates. I will be using it quite a bit, so I decided to purchase it, but at first it seems a bit expensive. It also integrates with Araxis Merge.

I agree w/ the poster now below me. Decent dupe app but for 20$ it is definitely not worth the change. No offense to Araxis but all of your products are over priced. If the apps were reasonably priced I believe you would in the end have more customers. Just my .02 . Wish I could afford Araxis programs, but right now, there is no way I can sleep easy paying the list prices. Please bring the prices down or get with MU and do a one day deal, I think your company would benefit from more customers at a lower price. I don't need to explain economics, you know what your doing. Just wish they were priced fairly.
