Only one big complaint. Every time I change a font in my OSX's fonts folder Mplayer OSX Ext. blocks at launch with this dumb message: "Fontconfig needs to update its font cache. This can take up to a couple of minutes." This is massively annoying. No other program does this: VLC, MPlayerX, Movist, QuickTimePlayer, RealPlayer ...

It is written: REQUIREMENTS Intel/PPC, OS X 10.5 or later. It is not true. I have 10.6.8, 32bit and when I downloaded it I got an X over circle!? Meaning: it cannot be used! It is not what it is written. Please, assist.

Dejmac, yes, you're right: the published requirements were wrong. Unfortunately, they didn't get updated when the listing was updated. Although rev15 is compatible with OS X 10.6, it requires a 64-bit processor.

I'm posting a Universal Binary for rev14 (Intel 64/32 and PPC for OS X 10.5 or later), which you'll find in the Related Links.

We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.

Ouch, 32bit somehow slipped out of the final build.

The build has been updated with 32bit support. Redownload it here on MacUpdate, the homepage or through software update.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

bbw7, the download link on the listing *doesn't* go to MU Desktop; it goes to Amazon's github cloud, which is the location from which you would receive the file if you went to the developer's site to download it. If you don't trust us, highlight the downloaded file in Finder and open an Info window. Look under More Info.

If you haven't yet, scroll down and read some of the other posters. The download link on macupdate's webpage is full of bugs and does NOT run that well. But...not all hope is lost.

https://sites.google.com/site/hermihg/

Hermi's fork of the mplayer app is exceptional and I use it over VLC now. Go to that site! It's the mplayer you've always been waiting for.

Tried it out with a dvd and external sub file, thought I had it made on a great solution to watching dvds with no english subs.
Worked great for the first half of the film, then no subs.
So, it's half way there I guess.

In contrast to this bug ridden version of "OS X Extended" The MPlayerX for Mac just works with few annoyances and have working hardware acceleration too. Only on Intel/10.6+ though.

If you want an alternative on PPC I really feel VLC outdoes this player in v1.1.12 (preferred) as well as v2.0.3. VLC doesn't have hardware acceleration.

cksum had trouble on 09 Jan 2011
New version (r14) is unusable on Intel Core Duo. Video plays for a second and then freezes, while the audio continues to play, even on SD content. r13 plays them just fine.

This occurs using both the MT and standard mplayer binaries. Log file does not indicate anything erroneous. A shame...

I fixed the same problem by deleting the app's 2 prefs in my preferences folder:

- Quit the app MPlayer
- Go to ~/Library/preferences
- delete the file "hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended.LSSharedFileList.plist"
- delete the file "hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended.plist"
- re-launch the app

Is there a way to make Mplayer look for a .srt subtitle in the same folder as the movie and load it automatically, like Movist does?

OK, it seems it works by default. Some .srt subtitles I have were not loaded because they were not recognized by MPlayer, probably due to some problems in the files themselves, even though VLC can display them. It proves that there is no perfect player and one should always have 3 different players and from movie to movie switch to the one that works best.

I just updated to rev13 from rev12 recently, and found most of my RMVB video and some of AVI video would crash rev13, which can be played in rev12 and VLC well. Any one get the same problem?
- Most RMVB: Movie plays for arround 15sec and then stucked. I have to killall MPlayer OSX Extended to force quit.
- Some AVI:: MPlayer OSX Extended reports crash and asked me to select which mplayer to use, when I tries to play the movie.

Besides, VIDEO_TS still doesn't display well.
