Good player. Also because it is possible to show more than 1 subtitle it is ideal for synchronizing subs.

Looks like there is no proper "Developer's Site" any more, just the app store...

And, the Movist developer site link on the Mac App Store is dead, too. Makes me uneasy about having anything to do with an app when I don't know who's behind it.

I'm surprised that a working developer link isn't required for listing in MacUpdate and Mac App Store.

How did I not discover this player until now? After years of struggling with the compromises of MplayerX (great interface, unreliable audio sync) and VLC (strong playback, wonky interface), I just found Movist and I'm besotted!

Fantastic piece of software. Clearly a labor of love. Has every feature I wanted and more besides. Good interface, full of thoughtful details, and the "Preferences" literally made me swoon.

Best movie player on the Mac by far. And the best five bucks I've spent on a Mac app in a long time.

Sharp and clean subtitle resolution is the greatest feature. Other players for mac are unable to do this simple thing. That's why Movist is the best.

For me Movist definitely is the best video player on the Mac. Very stylish, customizable and renders subtitles much better than all the other players available.

I just wish, it would bring back displaying informations like "Data Rate" and "Size" of the movies, useful for people who often compress video files, like me.

VLC can play video files with the extension ".part", which are being downloaded by Firefox and not finished yet.

It would be nice, if Movist could do that too!

I discovered a problem: On Mac 10.6.8 the keyboard light goes off when a video starts to play, but after some seconds the light goes back on. So, keyboard light doesn't stay off.

On other players, like MPlayerX, this feature is working without problems.

What I wrote on September 22 is not true. An app called "Lab Tick" was switching the keyboard light back on. So, when Lab Tick is not running, keyboard light goes and stays off when Movist is playing a film, as expected.

i've been having trouble for weeks now with what i thought was Lion. Apple helped me track down a file called "unar" within the Movist app. it takes over my computer and causes the spinning ball and drains the hard drive of free space. within 20 minutes i lose 90 gigs. restart gets it back. it slows the computer to a crawl. anyway, this file unar is somehow creating a folder in the invisible usr which is temporarily filling the drive with far files that have not been uncompressed and it temporarily uncompresses it. this is the strangest thing i've seen yet. Movist is definitely causing it. i force quit the running unar files that are running simultaneously in activity monitor and everything goes back to normal, but i still have to restart. i've lost time and money trying to pinpoint the cause of this problem. SHAME ON YOU developers of Movist. It's a virus disguised as a plague.

Wow, that's all I can say. I beats vlc blow for blow. Please fix yourself up vlc. Been loyal all these years. But this player has so much going for it. It's like what vlc is supposed to be. Works perfectly with mkvs. One problem. How do I get rid of the annoying popup title every time I open a new vid?

I was fearing they stopped developing.
But as I seen at the project-page, they did some work @ Sep 06:
dx/sub subtitle display fixed.
some memory leak fixed.
snow leopard compatible.

Still no download available, but it looks good. I hope they will make the source-code also snow-leopard compatible. Cheers!

BTW: Movist uses more CPU than every other player, but it's also very fast and responsive (which comes with a price).

I don't understand why they don't release a point version like 0.6.5 to rescue us, Snow Leopard users, from the huge memory leak. If I want to watch a movie of more than 1 GB, I have to stop in the middle of the movie, quit Movist, and then re-open it.

Are there any nightly builds for Movist? Or can someone build it from the available code? Because I can't. :)

Just this review can show how good Movist is. I simply don't want to go back to VLC or MPlayer Extended.

Movist seems to have a pretty bad memory leak in Snow Leopard. In the course of watching a movie the memory usage goes up to over 800mb!

Unfortunately it is quite bad. If you pause the movie, you'll see everything lags at the system. I am sure it is easy to fix, and hopefully they update it soon, because Movist is really very good movie player.

In the project site, you can enter this problem at the "issues" page.

Very nice player, but I cant get subtitles in .txt format to work, it just say "cannot read subtitle" (tried differet encoding and no luck).
VLC can read this subtitles with out any problem.

Some times has isue with sound.

Beside that good product and price :)

Movist now support sub/idx subtitles but why are they so big ?

I think this is a sort of auto-size but it's really big when the sentence are short. Weird.

Changing size doesn't work.
