1.4.1
18 February 2007

Scale images and convert image file formats.

Overview

Image Tool is a utility to scale images and convert image file formats. Source images can be tiff, jpg, gif, bmp, png or pdf. Source Images can be dragged and dropped into the application's main window, or onto the application's icon. There are buttons for quick resizes, or exact sizes can be typed in. Images can be output to tiff, jpg, gif, bmp or png. Image Tool can also work directly in and out of the pasteboard, rather than with files. Image data from the pasted board (selected and copied from another application, such as Preview) can be selected as the source image. After resizing, the scaled image can be copied into the pasteboard to be pasted into another application.

Incredibly great and straightforward for resizing, but JPG export is missing a size/quality setting. :(

I am confused about the size of Image Tool 1.4.1. At the developer's website it is 570,388 bytes - but at some other sites it was 1,471,625 bytes - despite the fact that both of versions have the same version number (i.e., 1.4.1) as well as the same creation and Modification dates.

Excellent little utility. A few years old but still works fine today (on 10.5.8). Today I asked it to covert a 244MB(!) TIFF file to a 8MB JPEG. Simple matter of dropping the original file in the left box, set the desired output variables (like DPI, format) and Image Tool does the job in a few seconds. Still impressed, although I've been using this for a few years now.

Best I've seen so far. Really easy in use. Also love the feature of directly importing from the clipboard.

In a Mac world full of Leopards and Snow Leopards, everyone seems to have forgotten the hundreds of thousands of people still having to use Tiger because of their hardware setup. Because of this we miss out on all the latest software, as the majority are not compatible with pre 10.5 systems, and many devs seem to chop their older downloads in favour of the latest Apple incarnation. A big thank you to the developer, who has produced a really tidy and efficient app for OSX 10.4 and above. Works like a charm. I'm so happy with it I've gone straight to his website and left a donation. A must have app for anyone running a legacy/PPC Mac.

output quality is excellent! better than all other free resizers. I tried them all. resized image is sharp and very very little lighter than the original, and looks very good. yes, the compression setting is not available. but looks like it's 100%, according to the resulting image that i see.
