LinkOptimizer for Mac6.0.19

19 July 2021

Reduce InDesign link size, convert colors and formats, and more.

What is LinkOptimizer for Mac

LinkOptimizer is a workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign which works with Photoshop to reduce InDesign link size, perform essential image adjustments, and convert image formats. LinkOptimizer helps users save hours - and days - of optimizing and converting links manually. The app allows you to dramatically reduce the size of InDesign job, accelerate output, cut down on processing time and reduce production costs.

Features:
  • Reduce link size and optimize resolution:
    • LinkOptimizer will automatically reduce the image resolution, scale and crop the images in Photoshop according to their dimensions in the InDesign document and the target resolution specified, and reimport them to InDesign at 100%. Resolution upsampling is also possible.
  • Perform essential image adjustments:
    • Convert colors
    • Apply sharpening filters
    • Merge layers and delete hidden ones
  • Convert image formats
    • Convert links to JPEG, PSD, TIFF, and other formats automatically
    • Embed/unembed color profiles
  • Advanced options
    • Batch process InDesign files
    • Run Photoshop actions
    • Process specific InDesign layers
    • Optimize images for external use such as web design without relinking to InDesign

What's new in LinkOptimizer

Version 6.0.19:
  • Fixed an issue in which the Process button became unresponsive after clicking Stop in the alert informing of existing images.
  • Fixed a conflict between the crop and scale settings for certain link cases.
  • Fixed an issue in which some images that didn’t require resolution change but did require cropping weren’t resized correctly upon relinking.

This software saves our company a lot of time. The software we use at my company requires the links to be 300dpi @ 100%.

I layout a magazine and this in conjunction with Output Factory makes my life MUCH easier. I also got InPreflight with my bundle.. but must admit I did not use it yet. In any case.. if you do any kind of InDesign work that goes beyond leaflets, posters etc.. Zevrix got you covered!

Things get must easier, when you need more time and more space for more important parts of the process. If you're professional, powerful time- saving features are what you need. Is this Worth It?

Like many have said, probably a good product...but not worth that kind of price unless you're producing a steady stream of income already.

Pricey for what it does, and probably not useful for the common mac user...but it looks like a useful product for Designers who are perpetually frustrated by the organization system behind InDesign links. This is most beneficial, I assume, for delivering a product to a printer -- allowing you to use e-mail instead of mailing a CD.

Nice product for a useful task. But THIS and other tasks were the main reason for me, learning Applescript. InDesign is extremly good scriptable and writing a script, that does exactly the same, requires only a few hours (or a weekend), when you have understood the basics of scripting.

Excellent timing!!! Just as I'm about to start 6 new InDesign large projects!!! :) (definitely not something that I'd usually approve spending the full whack on - but at this price, I'd be silly not too!) I'll finally be able to backup all linked files with my InDesign jobs and not end up without space left - currently all the linked files are used in multiple documents so they're storred and backed up seperately. I'm glad to see some big and beefy apps here with some beautiful savings instead of the little utilities or games that seem more common (even though they get me to part with my cash just as easily) :P ...I wouldn't mind Adobe After Effects as a MUPromo ...hint hint. ;)

This is especially useful when saving numerous iterations of a design. I've noticed this app in the past (it seems to very actively developed). Still, even the discounted price is a trifle high for something I could do manually.

I tried the demo a while ago with a 7.3Gb InDesign job containing 126 links. LinkOptimizer optimized the files down to 2Gb in about 20 minutes (including a backup of the original files and applying a slight sharpen mask to optimized images). Pretty impressive! In fact, Link Optimizer was faster doing that than InDesign packaging the job to the desktop for DVD burning.

Awesome! I was hoping for LinkOptimizer to appear on MU Promo and here it is! If your are working on projects with lot of large images (magazine, catalogue, brochure, annual report...) LinkOptimizer is an invaluable tool. I prefer archiving images in their original size but LinkOptimizer is great for optimizing files before sending them to the printer on DVD.

I agree, it looks like it would be useful, but i think even at the discounted price, it is hard to justify. I would still need to keep the full size files for archiving etc, it would only be when sending the indesign docs to other people that it would be useful, and that is pretty rare now. Creating PDF's to send does the same job at saving space, but using this first would allow faster saving of the pdfs, good when lots of drafts and proofs are made during production.

It works! And it does it real fast. Linkoptimizer saves a lot of time and is custumisable to my needs. Can't all this be done manually? Yes it can but I rather spent my time on something more usefull like playing World of Warcraft. If your're using InDesing a lot you really should give it a try. Also see the Q&A section of de Zevrix website for some more details. 5 stars for developers support.

This product is magic. It does exactly what it claims to do, and fast. Not only that, but the developer contacted me within hours when I reported a "bug" (which turned out to be a problem with InDesign finding graphic files but not updating file-path information for the links, despite a change to a folder name), and kept contacting me until the problem was resolved. Even if you used this only as a calculator for effective resolution it would be amazing. That it can then optimize images to that resolution automatically makes it a must-have, especially for those producing print-ready InDesign files. Highly recommended.
