1.2.2 is available. Macupdate should keep a better track on the updates...

Thanks for pointing this out. We track 10,000s of items and we're a very small team -- sometimes items slip through the cracks. But our great users help keep us on our toes! :)

I've had nothing but trouble with my Lacie Firewire DVD Lightscribe© burner. I can't get the software to recognize or "see" the drive. I've tried cycling the power. I tried downloading the software updates from Lacie's website, but nothing so far. If I connect a WD Ext firewire HD into my Mac using the same cable and port, the computer recognizes it right away. If anyone has any ideas please respond.

I'm not sure why everyone is having so much trouble with the update. I downloaded it the other day, no problem. In addition, I love my lightscribe labeller. The only issue being speed and contrast. I look forward to updates as the technology is improved. Until then, I may purchase a few more drives so that I can burn and print multiple discs at one time. I'm glad that the update includes the ability to print on multiple discs.

I made the mistake of buying a LaCie lightscribe burner. Thought it would be a great idea, but the Mac version of the software is HORRIBLE.

It's a quickie for the Mac crowd that doesn't have even half the features of the windows version. And it's clunky and unreliable.

I've had it quit unexpectedly a few times, stupid errors for no good reason and have had to force quit a few times. It's really, truly awful and LaCie should be embarrased to offer this. Too bad that legit labelling software (discus is 100% better) can't be used with the burner. Mac users are stuck with this garbage.

And if anyone is wondering, I'm running a newly-installed 10.4.6 on a G5 dual 2.7 gHz tower.

I've tried to download the update from the LaCie site numerous times. The update downloads to a .sit file. I try to expand the .sit file, but nothing happens. stuffit launches for about a second like it's expanding the file, but it's like there's nothing in the .sit update to apply.

BTW- according to the Lacie site you must run the LaCie update tool 1.3.3 BEFORE running this update...which I did...still nothing.

If anyone's been able to successfully run this update, please tell me what I'm doing wrong!

The download link here at the MacUpdate page for the LaCie Lightscribe Labeler Updater 1.0.3 works just fine here...

It downloads a .zip file and unzipping it yields a folder with two things inside it: a .dmg file (which contains the updater itself) and a ReadMe.

Cool, but is this version any faster? I don't want to be the first one to burn a CD disc label if it's still as slow as molasses. If it were to burn a label in a minute I'd buy more HP media, as it is if I burn a label I go wash my car, pickup groceries, go to the cleaners, do my banking and then maybe, just maybe, it might be finished.

No performance improvements at this time.

Only update for Tiger compatibility.

Mine took half an hour to burn a full disc label.

It seems to me you must have a very small very fast car and I should probably get the names of your grocers, cleaners and bank if you can do all that in 30 minutes!

Seriously though the speed isn't great but it's not unbearable (for me anyway).

I'm guessing that, as with most new technologies, prices, speed and functionality will all improve at a pretty fast rate so you might be better off waiting till the tech is a bit more developed.

cello - have u found a solution to your problem. I too have the same problem.

How do I get the original Lightscribe 1.0 program? Where do I get it?

Nurdley had trouble on 17 Jun 2005
I just downloaded the upgrade to 1.0.2, but it won't install. I get a message telling me that the upgrade cannot find LightScribe (I have 1.0 installed) and therefore cannot install. This us ridiculous, please fix it, LaCie.

As for the slowness--yes it is VERY slow, but the resulting print is superb.

Please be sure to have the LaCie LightScribe Labeler application inside the "Applications" folder of your active system drive.
