Nanosaur 22.0.8

26 January 2011

3D virtual dinosaur game.

Overview

In Nanosaur 2 you get to fly a pteradactyl who's loaded with hi-tech weaponry! In addition to the three level adventure mode where you blast enemy dinos and save eggs, there are also six two-player levels including racing, capture-the-flag, and battle.

Nanosaur 2 also supports 3D GLASSES! With a pair of red/cyan or red/blue 3D glasses you can play the game in true 3D as the objects pop out of the screen at you! If you need 3D glasses just do an internet search for "Red Cyan Anaglyph glasses" and you can find them easily.

This game never ages. With colorful graphics that have become a Pangea trademark, you're a lizard which has to gather eggs to survive an ice age. It sounds silly, but the action is involving. It's also quite challenging, once you graduate to the higher levels.

Great, Mac-only game! Nice idea, fun to play - and I love the stereo mode with anaglyph glasses for a real 3D experience!

I'm still struggling with Level 2 and I can't get through the gates - the ones with a half dome in middle and sharp edges on top. In level 1, I could shoot at the center and sometimes it would open. I could also fly "though" it if I press the jet pack while going up. So far, in level 2 I just crash! Any helps? I'm getting verrrry frustrated! Also I saw that using F12 and F2, F3 or F4 could restore health, jet fuel, etc. but these do not work for me. Nothing happens. Any clues why not? I do enjoy this game though ... it's becoming an addiction. So help this addict get through Level 2 if you can. Thanks!

Just bought a Mac Mini (m a die-hard linux person); never played any real video games.Found nanosaur 2; tried it and am hooked. What an awesome game and how well it runs on my liitle Mac mini. Well done! It took me a while to get the keyboard flight controls under control and to find how to switch and aim weapons. I'm still stuck on level one but I'm getting better. I have a couple questions, though. What are the weird ballon-like things on long, tall sticks? I can destroy them fine, but they never seem to attack me. And what are these strange, open, hemispheric, concrete-like things? I can shoot at them like no tomorrow but nothing seems to have an effect? yet they don't seem to want to harm me either? Since I am a complete stranger/newfie to the gaming world, I have no idea of whether or not questions like these are 'appropriate.' I looked for 'hints' (cheats?) on the Internet, but found nothing.

game came w/ sister's imac. i transferred to my powerbook and it runs just fine in tiger. no probs here. it's a fun game that takes a minute to learn flight control. but if you have a bit more patience and coordination than the other reviewers, you should have fun. the only downside is that you must complete a level to save a game and the next level begins w/previous stats. all in all, an enjoyable challenge.

Do they test these things BEFORE they release? Crashes in Tiger, same as comment below. Universal must not mean universal is it?

An awesome Pangea creation. the graphics card on a G4 iMac does occationally have a few problems (Nvidea Gforce2 - i think...) Otherwise the gameplay is good. the view of the game has been thought of, and the kiddie mode feature helps me a lot. But those Laser droids are a drag. COOL!

Incredibly unstable...AND will only play the "Adventure" game...when I try the others the game crashes. Also, crashes 2 or 3 times when launched initially...it finally starts but doesn't remember any of my set up prefs. I liked the demo a couple of months ago (of course none of these issues were happening then), and decided to buy the game. Between crashes, resetting my prefs, and such I think maybe I've spent 30 minutes actually playing this game. And by the way, it's not my machine...G4 Powerlogix 1.4mhz DP, 1.5 GB RAM

This is a great game. It's fascinating flying around prehistoric landscapes and swooping to pick up the eggs. It's an easy-to-use flight simulator where you can just play kiddie mode and enjoy the scenery from the perspective of a pterodactly (or is it a pteranodon?) Even on kiddie mode you will need weapons to deal with the wandering robots on level 2. I'm stuck on level 2 because I can't find where to look for more eggs, and I'm sure there are more than 8. Hints would be welcome! Way to go Pangea!

I love this game, even if I do have to play it in kiddie mode, but can someone tell me why when the game is in kiddie mode, nothing fires at the good guy on the first level, but in the second level, those detestible R2D2-looking creatures fire at it with a vengeance. I would love to get to the third level before I die of old age (in real life), but I'm shot to pieces after about two eggs and I can go no further after about umpteen attempts. Also, the good guy's firing with the space bar doesn't shoot at anything.I am being shot to death with no defense except running away. Are there any cheats with this game? Help, someone, please.

Having difficulty saving between levels 2 and 3--click saved games; screen goes dark; nothing--complete system freeze; have to hard restart to get anywhere. Running a stock iBook G4 1.07 Ghz w/768 Mb RAM OS 10.3.4. Though Mr. Greenwood of Pangea has been prompt in responding, his only suggestions have cost a bunch (RAM upgrade) or been very inconvenient (reinstall OS) Other ideas?

Excellent gameplay with nice graphics. But after finishing the game after only three levels was a huge disappointment. I thought the shipped me demo version. Bugdom and other Pangea games usually had 10 levels. I suspected something immediately when the install was only 120mb. Pangea please post some add-ons.

I went crazy when I tried the demo in 3D. I bought the game the same evening. I dont play much games at all but this one I just had to try. After the first 3 levels I felt "hmm... I'm getting better and better" and then the immediate response from the game was "Mission accomplished". Three levels? Is that all there is?

This game is a lot of fun, and has a pace that casual gamers can enjoy. But like an old coin-op game, there's no way to save between levels. I emailed Pangea (Brian Greenstone replied) and he said "there is no technical way" to save mid-level. With levels that can take the better part of an hour, this is a true shortcoming. Only a hack or cheat can save you from the frustration this can induce!

Ahhhhh... Much better after the keyboard fix. Fun game! Runs great on my iBook 933. Nice to see a new game once in a while that doesn't have sys requirements that would stop a G5 dead in it's tracks. Thanks Pangea :)

Gah! Ok I feel like an idiot... Ignore the below comment... I guess I should read the pdf files eh? lol.. :P Perhaps you should include the "game controls" as a menu option with the game itself... that's normally where I look for them. Still a great game though :)

This game is so much fun, way more fun than the original. Gamepad support and 3D mods are great! Same with all of the multiplayer levels. I think that it is fun the way that whenever you hit the ground you die. All of you who don' t like it, just have to give it a few more minutes, then it will be fun. Great game!

I remember the original Nanosaur on my first iMac in 1999. A fun game that was definately pick up and play. Nanosaur 2 starts off where the original ended.....the Eggs are safe untill some renegade dinosaurs come along and steal the eggs.......they conveniently leave one egg behind which hatches into your main charecter......a teradactyl with a jet pack. My first impressions in the 3D Anaglyph mode were, WOW......its like you are really there and VERY scary when you smash into the side of a massive dinosaur....sparks and particle effects fly out of your screen! The game seemed to crash in the Shutter Glasses option but It still recovered and I did not have to re-boot. Dont try this Option. The game ran very well in 1280x980 at 32 bit colour on my Geforce 4 Ti MDD. Overall, the game is still as pick up and play as its predecessor....a little difficult to get to grips with the controls on the mouse but if that fails you can always use the arrow keys! Cool graphics, great fun, well done ;)...again.

Graphics are decent enough, (can see the ground texture tiling though). Mouse control is hideous, death by branch is baffling, and the killer here is that the ground based play is gone, you can't even land to take a breather. Looks interesting though, fingers crossed for a major 2.5/3.0 revamp.

It crashes/freezes. Everything works great on my G4mdd1250 (768 MB, OSX.2.6) till the gameplay starts and the Nanosaur flies smoothly from the wormhole on the left to the landscape on the right - but then, after only 5 seconds "gameplay", everything freezes. Not even Ambrosia's "Escape Pod" can quit it: I have to force-shutdown my G4. Tried it 3 times with different res-settings; that's enough. Evil! Stay away! I never experienced such a shit. All other Games (UT'04, Neverwinter Nights, Vendetta, Tomb Raider etc) are running perfectly on my G4. :-(

Terrible game. I was a big fan of the first one, and this is a let-down. Play is choppy on my TiBook 1Ghz. Load time was pretty long for the level 1 demo. The controls are awkward. As others have said, it's too easy to die by accident just by clipping a branch. Also, although I prefer flying by mouse, shooting is still by keyboard, a disconnect for me. The "built-in" weapon is useless, and power-ups for better weapons are sometimes quite hard to get. The concept of flying in the game sounded cool, but in the end I missed the tactical flexibility offered by version one's "grounded" dinosaur. And the ultimate critics -- my kids -- were completely put off by the game. With Nanosaur 1, they played it endlessly. With this one, they were unimpressed.

Does the egg-collecting level in N64's Diddy Kong Racing ring any bells? :-) Runs very smoothly at 1280x854 at both high and normal settings on my albook 1.25ghz (64mb Radeon 9600 Mobility). Anaglyph mode works quite well in b/w. I may need to calibrate it better for colour. I'm just using $1 red/blue glasses though. Overall, I prefer to play without glasses - much more colourful. Very impressive graphics. I imagine splitscreen multiplayer would be pretty cramped. Pangea, please update it for LAN or even network play. The controls aren't too bad, but it seems far too easy to die if you clip a branch. Kinda takes the fun out of it. They need better configuration options. And there isn't much that attacks you when you're up high. I think I preferred the combat in Nanosaur 1. Overall, very impressive.

The file that was listed here was never meant to be downloaded by the public. The file that IMG Pro users were allowed to download is the beta demo that only IMG Pro users were suppose to be able to download. The reason why the file was pulled was not because of a bug but because it was a beta that wasn't suppose to be available to the public.

Ghosting, to me, in color anaglyph mode; works fine in B&W mode. This was expected (to me; I work with anaglyphs as my day job) and the effect is far better in B&W mode. I had hoped for red/cyan anaglyph, not red/blue which gives an overall purple cast and the image is dimmer, but 3D effect works well. Was not able to test blue-line sync shutter glasses.

I played the demo on my G4 450 MP, 1 gig of ram, radeon 8500, 10.2.8 system. It was VERY smooth, set at best graphics, at 1024 x 768 res, 32 bit. This will be a favorite, I'm sure. The graphics are excellent to say the least. Pangea seems to know how to get the most out of the Mac, it's good to see you don't need a cutting edge Mac to play high quality games. As for stability, I can't rate that yet. The demo works fine, but.....
