3D medical image processing software with DICOM/PACS support.

Overview

OsiriX Lite is an image processing software dedicated to DICOM images (".dcm" / ".DCM" extension) produced by medical equipment (MRI, CT, PET, PET-CT, ...) and confocal microscopy (LSM and BioRAD-PIC format). It can also read many other file formats: TIFF (8,16, 32 bits), JPEG, PDF, AVI, MPEG and Quicktime. It is fully compliant with the DICOM standard for image comunication and image file formats. OsiriX Lite is able to receive images transferred by DICOM communication protocol from any PACS or medical imaging modality (STORE SCP - Service Class Provider, STORE SCU - Service Class User, and Query/Retrieve).

OsiriX Lite has been specifically designed for navigation and visualization of multimodality and multidimensional images: 2D Viewer, 3D Viewer, 4D Viewer (3D series with temporal dimension, for example: Cardiac-CT) and 5D Viewer (3D series with temporal and functional dimensions, for example: Cardiac-PET-CT). The 3D Viewer offers all modern rendering modes: Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR), Surface Rendering, Volume Rendering and Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP). All these modes support 4D data and are able to produce image fusion between two different series (for example: PET-CT).

With high performance and an intuitive interactive user interface, OsiriX Lite is the most widely used DICOM viewer in the world. It is the result of more than 10 years of research and development in digital imaging. It fully supports the DICOM standard for an easy integration in your workflow environment and an open platform for development of processing tools. It offers advanced post-processing techniques in 2D and 3D, exclusive innovative technique for 3D and 4D navigation and a complete integration with any PACS. OsiriX Lite supports 64-bit computing and multithreading for the best performances on the most modern processors. OsiriX MD, the commercial version, is certified for medical use (FDA cleared and CE II labeled).

  • Optimized for macOS Mojave 10.14
  • Dark mode
  • Improved Viewers

I'm not a physician, but only a cardiopathic and I must say it's always a great emotion for me to look over my angioplastic intervention. Really great! At the hospital they gave me a copy of the CD, but they said it was not possible to see with a normal PC. But they don't know Mac! Thanks to the developer.

It's a program to review medical imaging - MRI, CT scan, etc. It came on the CD with the images and works as expected. The CD also provides a web page interface to view the images.

This is really a 5-star app for physicians with a Mac. I've been using it since the 2.x days, on OS 9, and love its power and elegance. For the past 5 years or so, I've also paid for the "64-bit" extension to support the developers, even though I have no use for the extended memory management (I only view angiograms, which are not resource-intensive). My major gripe is that its free version stamps all images with a "Not for medical use" watermark, which is truly annoying. This, in effect, forces even light users like myself to upgrade every year to the tune of $150-250. Now that my license has expired, I decided not to renew it for this reason. I believe it's ill-conceived; hence the 4 star rating. Hope Antoine reconsiders this watermark thing.

Hi, I wrote a plugin a while ago that gets rid of the "Important Notice" dialog and the "NOT FOR MEDICAL USAGE" watermark, so folks who do no need the FDA/CE version can use the free version of OsiriX without getting nagged. You can get it at: http://download.naturalimage.ch/UnImportantWebPage.html

I updated this application today and I was presented with an "OsiriX would like access to your contacts". Um....WTF?! Why does this developer want access to my contacts?! Don

Does the app have a sharing feature (via email, for example)? I've noticed that apps that support this functionality typically ask for access when launched (unless Preferences let you disable this feature). Just a guess (haven't checked out the app).

Because it's a medical tool and medics are always contacting their patients and colleagues. OsiriX can share and manage files and attribute it to patients/users.

This is an incredible piece of free software. I recently had a couple of MRI's and when I found out I could get the scans on disk I was excited to see them. But the disk came with Windoze viewers which were no good. An immediate scan of the web brought me to Osirix. Never had any issues with this program ever. Solid. Many thanks for keeping a free version going.

After an accident, I used this software to visualize the fracture of my knee. Even without medical knowledge, it is very fun ! The iPad/iPhone apps are nice too, It's very fun to impress his friends. But I'm sure the medical staff has a more intelligent use of the software than me.
