22 May 2019

3D modeling, rendering and animation package.

Overview

Cheetah3D is a lean, fast, and elegant 3D modeling, rendering, and animation package with an easy learning curve. It was written from ground up in Cocoa and offers many powerful tools like subdivision surface modelling, joint based character animation system, morph targets, UV unwrapping, texture painting, PDF import, HDRI, radiosity, renderings, etc.

The ability to extend Cheetah3D with JavaScripts and support for many common file formats rounds out its feature set.

I've used Cheetah3D for about 10 hours now and am particularly impressed that, even with the complex relationships that it must be maintaining between objects, 'Undo' has never given an unexpected result and the thing has never raised an exception or crashed. The design must be very well thought out.

I found Cheetah 3D more difficult to use than Maya. I've bought a tutorial from the Cheetah 3D's site, yet it doesn't explain how to create faces... At leasts it seems very difficult to get as good result as the one you can get from Maya. Of course, the price is more cheaper but it doesn't justify why it is more difficult to use. When you buy applications similar to Adobe Illustrator such as Sketch, there are very similar feature that allow us to use the applications easily without tweaking hours and try to find a way to get the result we expect. Nevertheless, this app is very promising and the design i saw from people using it are quite satisfying... it's not an application for beginner... You'll need time to master it... and there are not so many free tutorial that teach you how to use it... Try it before buying it...

Tried to download the demo but always unsuccessful. The webpage tells me that "Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster." Not sure if it is because I am from South East Asia. Just hope the developer can open up access to everyone.

Last year I spent some time looking into 3D apps. I wanted something to get me into 3D. I looked at Strata, Cinema4D and a couple of others but to be honest the prices put me off. Somehow I stumbled across Cheetah3D, which seemed to tick all the boxes, it's mac, it's cheap and probably most importantly it does one hell of a job. A quick look in the gallery showed me what I wanted to see, I downloaded the demo and 20 minutes later I made the purchase. Since that day I've never looked back. Cheetah3D does everything I want it to do and then some. If you're looking for an excellent 3D package for Mac at a good price, stop looking, you've found it!

Look at AC3D, easier to use, cross-platform, fast, stable, more compatibility and really less expensive ! http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18390

Hi all, this prog has a cool interface, and it doesnt look that hard compared to other programs like Blender and such, but i am in the search for a good program to render game data, such as cars from Ford Racing or Soldiers from BF1942, i have downloaded alot of these programs, but i cant import those kind of files, does anyone know a good program for it ? it doesnt have to be for mac specific, but else VPC gets so slow :/ mail me anytime ! info@darkraver.net cheers !

I love this piece of software! First of allits truelly Mac, it's very simple to use and learn whic is great for a novice i.e. beginner. The developer Martin, is quite responsive and he is not greedy very reasonably priced. Unlike lets say Silo whos developers don't respond or care much for Mac users ecxept to take their money and are already asking for an upgrade fee after one Mac release, thats never had allthe features the Windoze version had. So my hats of to you Martin, keep up the good work for and in behalf of the Mac commonity.

Very impressive piece of software. But please do add a version number to the downloadable .dmg-files. Like: "Cheetah3D_2.4.1.dmg" a not "Cheetah3D.dmg" Plus: IMHO the toolbar icons in Cheetah3D are not very professional looking and way too colorful.

I LOVE this program. Great rendering, some of the finest I've had experience with. I only would like support for self-lighting (lightmaps), so, to make an area glow, on a polygonobject, I wouldn't need to position a spotlight at that place, the supplementary image would create illumination there. (It's like a bumpmap for light.)

This is a very impressive application. Reminds me of Maya or Rhino. Only wishlist item would be support of the STEP or IGES file format.

Very good program for vizualizing various 3d formats, very quick too. Should addd the option to auto spin an object in all axis in a "automatic vizualization" mode. Very nice developpers responded to my feedback about a bug very fast and sent me an updated version within 2 days.

Despite what the developer said, this seems to run fine under OS 10.3.0 - you don't need 10.3.4

what a cool little app, obviously not upto Cinema or FormZ standards but with the right investment and a good renderer this could be great. Well done
