I'm a beginner, so this software was exactly for me) I don't need to learn a lot to make a nice-looking album. I like numerous lovely backgrounds, the jAlbum offers. I can agree with others that the price is reasonable for such a nice app. Will continue to use it with pleasure.
I was about to purchase the jAlbum software $39, but after giving my credit card info, I was asked the last 6 digits of my social security number for further Visa "verification". I do not give out this information and thus will be looking elsewhere for a commprable software application, as much as I wanted this one.
Regrettably a non jAlbum customer
I had been looking for a web gallery app ever since Adobe removed the one they had in Photoshop. This fits the bill, and I can tweak the code in Dreamweaver to remove stuff I don't want, like the link to the developer's site and the skin info. Very nice over all!
This has been the best album application for many, many years already and it still is. Glad to see that it is still as actively developed as it has always been. And it's still free, too!
Everybody who wants to publish pictures on his or her web site or burn them on CD for friends or family should give jAlbum a try. Very likely you won't need nor want to use anything else again.
I was pretty impressed with this program, as well as with several of the additional skins you can download online. The albums you create are very professional looking for the most part. I would appreciate knowing which skins are entirely free to use, and which require registration (and a fee) to remove a nag message. The only other improvement I can think of is an easy way to remove a skin you've installed once you've decided you no longer want it.
This is a superb application. Within half an hour after downloading I was able to integrate a classy photo gallery with my website. Tremendous value as a free application, but I suggest that you make a donation if it saved you time and aggravation. It was very intuitive to use. The setup for integrating with a website is straight forward, and it functioned, at least for the first time, without hiccups. This is the way I would like to see all apps to work: doing a few speciic tasks very well.
This program is brilliant! Especially with version 7, it is easy to use and looks great. The included skins are attractive and the galleries look professional.
JAlbum's greatest strength is the ability to make your own skins. It is completely customizable, flexible and easy to learn if you know HTML. There is also an active user community. Finally, if you ever need to use a PC JAlbum will run on that too.
I just want to say that the latest version of JAlbum looked quite nice on the OS X platform. Also, I hope the developer understand that OS X users tend to have a much higher expectation when it comes to Apple HIG compliance and integration due to the large percentage of 3rd party apps that follow the Apple HIG.
Instead of trying to fix some of the bugs in the aqua look and feel manually, the developer might be interested in this BSD-licensed project: http://www.randelshofer.ch/quaqua/. Quaqua is an implementation of the Apple HIG and fixes many of the quirks and bugs in the Aqua L&F that come with OS X.
ps. Despite the comment about the lack of icons, OS X application never use icons on buttons and tabs! So I suppose that particular reviewer is the one who is ignorant. The developer should simply strip all icons from the OS X version from now on (instead of wasting the trouble to make OS X- specific icons).
I tried JAlbum over a year ago and didn't like it and I tried it again today and I still do not like it. JAlbum is overall is pretty good, however I dis-like it's interface and also it's inability to intergrate into other applications, such as iPhoto or iView Media Pro. Yes, JAlbum has great templates, but I'm sorry, I cannot get over it's clumsy interface and lack of intergration. For now I'm sticking with Galerie!
I've used most album programs for the Mac: Iphoto, Galerie, Photoshop, Photo2Web, and I'm sure a few others along the way. I love the features and the customizability of this app, and, for once, the fact that is a Java app--more people will be writing great templates for it!
