Flavours2 overview

Flavours Lite is an application to change the operating system's appearance in a fast, easy, and safe way. Applying a theme is only mouse-click away.

Flavours Lite was designed and built from the ground up for OS X 10.10 Yosemite. It features a completely rethought user experience through a new elegant UI, and introduces a new lightweight, fast, safe theming engine.

  • Light - Lightweight engine with overall better system performance.
  • Fast - Fast theme generation, fast theming engine, and apply themes instantly (no need to logout to see changes).
  • Safe - Seamless system integration, no system files modified on disk.
  • Themes - Bundled with a hand picked fine selection of 128 themes (+variants) for OS X Yosemite.
  • Variants - Choose from multiple artistic variations.

If you are running older OS X versions (10.7, 10.8 or 10.9), check Flavours Classic, which allows users to create, apply, and share themes (flavours-classic.interacto.net).

I've missed Kaleidoscope forever, used Shapershifter, and desperately wanted something like this. I gave up looking a few years ago, so of course I missed this entirely and didn't see it until it's already dying. I don't care, I bought it anyway. Works great and has a great interface. I'm so sad about this going away, but I will almost certainly be using older OS's for a long time, I see no reason to upgrade.

To whom it may concern, (flavours Devs?) I am a legally blind, legally deaf, learning disabled person. I am a gifted artist and scholar. My Mac is really truly wheels for my mind and a large crayon for my soul. Theming had always been my plan b when Apple screwed up the UI for me, but thats been taking away now by Apple. Ive has not a clue how to design a UI thats friendly for us who are visually impaired. Apple thinks I should be using Zoom 24/7 but that only grabs a bitmap image of the display and forces a scaling that just blurs the text something awful. Voice over is not a one size fits all answer either. Apple thinks I should be forced to deal with 9/10 pt text size all over the UI set with grey background that makes for poor contrast. I should not have to buy another pair of glasses to use an UI! So who is willing to storm the UI and give me back some control of system font size and larger icon sizes, like in the toolbars? I will not wait 5 yrs like I did from ios6 to ios9 to get font relief. I want UI doctors who will repair the damage Apple/Ive has done. Apple, stop stepping into my light, preventing me from doing my work!! Feel free to contact me. and Read this: Fhttp://www.fastcodesign.com/3053406/how-apple-is-giving-design-a-bad-name

This is one of the pieces of software that makes me most happy on my Mac tbh! Still clinging onto Yosemite for this reason. Has anyone else got an issue within the last week where using any dark theme, like Ninja Blue, now makes the tabs text black thus making the tabs unreadable against the black theme / background?

Although I have upgraded to El Capitan, I have fond memories of Flavours, which was a welcomed replacement for Shapeshifter. I will miss theming for Mac. I hope someone develops something for El Capitan.

If Interacto Labs would simply implement this remarkable theme for that has been created for Linux, they would OWN the market for theme customization (especially dark) for OS X: http://cl.ly/0v3X000W1i38 Nothing close to this has been done for OS X as far as dark themes go and I'm sure every last one of us would swoon over it.

Well, drat. I tried it on El Capitan, both with and without rootless. It simply says "Unsupported." So that really is the end of the line. Still, the developers seem to know their stuff, and I have faith that one of these days, they're going to come up with something that can free us of that dreadful grey that we used to put up with in the early days of Classic.

I think it is sad although I understand the reasons for Apple wanting to secure the system, like others here I don't see why Apple can't give us a few choices of gui, especially those G awful folders, the flat icons for facetime, etc. and don't get me started on that so called moronic grinning 'have a nice day' update to the finder icon !! Perhaps if enough people get together and email them something may happen even if they just get Jonny Ives a beginners guide to icon design, he may be good at the 3D stuff but the 2D sucks. Anyway I will buy F2 even if it's just to give the guys $5 for a beer.

Flavours Lite is very interesting to see that the program is reliable and powerful. I hope that there will be soon the version of Flavours with the ability to produce even your own themes.

Flavours Lite released with 128 themes for Yosemite. As dev advises, this may well be the end of theming on Mac due to Apple's new security policy of preventing any process (including privileged processes) from modifying system files under any circumstances. So no more theming, modifying GUI, etc etc. So get used to sickening eye-candy garish GUI because you won't be able to tweak it to suit your tastes. Surely, surely, it's about time Apple supports theming or tweaking GUI as core OS function? Why do we have to use garish colours with no choice or options for colour schemes/themes etc? Kaleidascope, then Shapeshifter, now Flavours. The fact that these theming apps are developed and used suggests very strongly there is a demand for such options to tweak GUI. It's time Apple supported theming, either as core OS or allowing devs to cater to demand by users. 5 Stars for Flavors and great devs, 0 stars for Apple eye-candy garish GUI.

I suspect modifying the app for Yosemite has proven more difficult that the developer expected. Which means you will have to wait longer than you expected for the final product. Though he's calling this a sneak peek, what it really means is this is beta software. And it's in the nature of beta software to not be feature complete. I think the developer outsmarted himself by calling this a sneak peek. People are obviously expecting this to be a more complete product. If he had been more honest, people would know it is beta software and would be less disappointed in the missing features. They might also be more constructive in their comments. Moral for developers: don't try to be cute with your marketing. People don't take it well when they think they've been misled.

I contacted the makers of this program asking when they hoped to have their new Flavours 2. They sent me the link to the Sneak Peak demo version. While it looks good and works well I found it very limiting and not able to give the program a full test drive. I also noted and emailed back informing them that there was no theming creation window to make your own themes as in the earlier full licensed version and if this feature was not going to part of the Flavours 2. And if not will not be paying for the update. Given that it has taken interacto labs this long and to only come with a very limited working demo beta and no word back as to whether the new Flavours 2 will give users the ability to create their own themes as previous is poor. And what happens when the demo stops working as it has limited time use date on it to then still not have a full working version? Shame on you Interacto for fobbing us off with this poor attempt that has taken you this long to only come up with a limited working version. Not worth the download. Isn't it interesting that companies like Adobe managed to get full working updates for all their programs working on Yosemite along with other companies and their programs. They'd go out of business if treated their customers like Interacto labs do with poor communication to removing many of the previous features from their programs. Piss poor

Am I missing something? All I have is a non-working app that shows possible options and some are listed as DEMO only - so I can't test flavours in stor or collections etc?
Is this what everyone else is seeing?

OK - discovered how to get it working - rather than turning Flavours on from Menu Bar or from inside app by sliding on/off slider (both of which do nothing), you turn on a Flavour that turns on Flavours. Bottom-up approach rather than top-down.

All good, enjoying the tweaking to GUI! MANY thanks to dev and team for Flavours 2

I haven't had time to check out all the themes, but it seems very promising. In particular, one no longer has to log out for changes to take effect. Looks like I can finally move to 10.10.

I have the paid version for pre-Yosemite and since i have always loved to apply themes to change the appearance of OS 9 and X looking forward to try this later on this week when i boot into one of my external Yosemite hard drives. At the moment i have a huge beef with Yosemite and believe that Apple needs to address some serious behavioral issues with Yosemite. Actually there were some excellent theme changers in OS 9 and prior that i still have/use in my legacy macs operating OS 9 and prior, To bad, the developers are unable to transport those into OS X versions of Flavours. For example you could change system fonts, colour finder windows and add finder window patterns.
