I love this app, but lately it has become very unstable on OS X 10.9.4. It's been hanging and crashing a lot. And once it crashes you can't bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Dock icon. Relaunching it doesn't help. So the only alternative is to log out and back in again.

I had to stop using it for the time being. :( Hope it's fixed soon.

I have 10.9.4 on several computers and have not experienced that issue. Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall Xtrafinder? I did have a problem on one of my computers with Snow leopard but re-installing Xtrafinder solved the problem.

The Appearance feature Legacy label color painting has an "Enabled for Desktop" checkbox that when unchecked comes back as checked every time Xtrafinder restarts or the computer reboots. The setting is not being saved correctly.

But I can't find "Option to disable "Arrange folders on top" on Desktop to prevent refreshing problem", and the dev hasn't responded to my e-mail, so will somebody please point me to it?

Open XtraFinder preferences select "Features" and the option is the second from the top...uncheck it.

Nope! The second option from the top is "Arrange folders on top".

"Option to disable "Arrange folders on top" on Desktop to prevent refreshing problem" remains MIA.

It's a 10.6.8 glitch; I've just got an empty space there.

Thanks.

I'm COMPLETELY baffled. I thought this app would allow me to Find files, but the interface makes it impossible to know where to start. I want to be able to, for example, type *.png in a field, and a date range in another field to find files ending with .png saved during that date range ... this XtraFinder is XtraConfusing. Sorry, it's must my tuppence worth of truth. Please, guys, tell me where I can find a Finder that I can use to actually FIND files on my computer, like during WindowsXP days, with that little dog icon.

@Meshsci : what on earth made you think that XtraFinder would help you 'FIND files' on your computer? Have you read the description at all? Nowhere does it mention that this app is used or that purpose.

Pretty poor show to give it half a star just because you expect it to do something it does not claim to do. XtraFinder doesn't make me a moccha in the morning, but it is really good at what it is supposed to do.

Meshsci: I am sorry to hear about your confusion. You seem to have mistaken ideas about what XtraFinder is for. It adds features to Finder, none of which are related to finding files.
That's what Spotlight is for, which you can access in Finder and also through the looking glass on the top right corner of your screen. Try hitting COMMAND-SPACEBAR and it will pop up immediately. You can then search for what you want.
If you want other tools for finding files, I suggest you check out:
> Houdahspot (commercial app)
> Tembo (free app, by Houdahspot developers)
> EasyFind (free app)

I find your review and star rating of XtraFinder to be misleading and misplaced. Please do something about rectifying it. Thanks.

I see, you take Finder for something to find. Correct, nobody knows exactly what Finder means, seemingly it has nothing to do with finding something, even if I suspect that was the initial intention.
So said, please note that you should not put a star if you do not understand what an app is planned for, you may simply ignore it. If you DO know and understand an app, and you DO know it behaves better/worse than or as others, then, yes, DO use the evaluation feature.

The Finder is the default file manager used on Mac OS and Mac OS X operating systems. It was called "Finder" back in 1985 because it allowed you to visually find your files, rather than needing a text list of files in a directory.

Clearly being a former Windows user you didn't get that. You would use Spotlight to find files. That replaced the former FindFile utility.

A very good file finding app is Found. It works much better than SpotLight.

I just installed XtraFinder 0.18.2 on Snow Leopard. Seems very nice, but I notice something odd... when I right-click on a folder in the path bar, two of the choices are "Open" and "Open in New Tab". The problem is that they each do the opposite of what they say -- "Open" opens in a new tab, while "Open in New Tab" overwrites the current tab. Is this a bug, or is there something I don't understand?

Hello: I am posting here, because I am having trouble with my email, it keeps resending you my OLD email draft, sorry....

Bug report that I have been noticing, on Mac OSX 10.6.8
When you are on desktop, and dragging an item on desktop to another folder or volume, xtrafinder freezes the native finder "spring loaded folders and windows" function.
You end up with a ghost/shadow of the icon movement still visible, and a frozen finder
A force quit of finder is required, which also quits xtrafinder, but once xtrafinder is inactive and native finder is relaunched, normal correct behaviour returns.
Did not notice this bug in version 0.13.1, but this happens all time in version 0.14...

( I have no crash log, because it 'freezes' finder, requiring relaunch of finder, not an actual crash…)

Thank You for your help and updates

Hello, Thank You for your excellent finder enhancement!
Feature Request?:
Would like to be able to drag icon at top of Tab to desktop.
Would like to be able to 'right-click' on icon at top of Tab.

This is to restore functions that are available when standard finder window is open, without XtraFinder installed. In the past, I often right clicked on the icon on top of finder window, and could also drag that new icon on top of tab to new destination freely. Your XtraFinder is very good, would like to add back standard functions, please. Thank You
