Apple 24-Inch LED Cinema Display Firmware Update addresses an issue that may cause intermittent display flickering. This firmware will only install on the Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display when it is connected to a Thunderbolt-enabled Mac.
IMPORTANT:
This firmware update may not resolve the flickering issue if a Mini DisplayPort extender cable is used.
NOTE:
Some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly; disconnect non-essential devices and use only an Apple keyboard and mouse to apply the update.
Requirements
Intel, Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later.

I'm not sure why this was posted. Just so everyone knows, this is not a 100% official fix from Apple. It is a fix that apple is working on, that if you call into apple care, they may OR may not tell you to apply this and email you a link to it. Some have reported success, others nothing at all, others things being worse.
It may become official at some point, but as of yesterday, it's almost considered a bandaid. From apple insider: "According to MacNN, one customer has received notification of the update from Apple France along with the warning that the patch is still in testing." Just thought people should know.
I have the 24" LED display and the current model MBP 13" i7 and do not have any untoward issue with display. It appears to be a sporadic issue which probably is why there is no hard, sure fix.
