". WHY remove functionality? There are a lot of us who don't/won't/can't tun 10.7. Seems like a dumb move to me.

Lion and Snow Leopard are two different. It's like maintaining two different apps. Plus, I only have one computer, so I can't test MenuWeather on Snow Leopard.

Lion is only $29. If your computer is capable on running it, there's no reason to not upgrade.

Bad attitude, Evan. There's a LOT of valid reasons to stay on Snow Leopard and avoid Lion. A *responsible* developer maintains reasonable access to their software, instead of pushing the bleeding edge and dropping backwards compatibility. You had the option of partitioning your hard drive so that you could have Snow Leopard and Lion on the same machine, and then could have done the necessary programming upon MenuWeather to have it work with both operating systems. How many App Store developers have intentionally chosen to blow off 10.6 compatibility? Very few. You have reduced your market exposure and market share. Please reconsider your decision.

I will look into re-implmenting Snow Leopard support. However, it would be limited. The main issue is the More Weather window which uses APIs that are only available in Lion.

I will chime in and say that there are actually still quite a lot of Mac users with 10.6.8 and for very good reasons. I was interested in purchasing this app until I saw that it wasn't compatible with Snow Leopard. I really don't want to bother explaining why I'm running 10.6.8, but I can assure you they are all valid reasons.

Excellent replacement for the lamentably unviable Weather Dock. Accurate and good range of display options. Also has clean UI and nice icon sets (important when they're going to be visible on your menubar for most of your mac's life).

I don't use the More Weather window as I don't need that much detail, but I don't think its as well thought through as the menubar item.

Stability has come along way since shaky previous versions, which often stalled and crashed. But it still hangs briefly when leaving preferences after changing, and should really deal with loss of internet connection better. Currently when it can't connect, hovering the mouse over it leads to the spinning wheel of death, which is unnecessarily alarming.

Overall though, my favourite menubar app, and hopefully destined to get better.

I'm guessing the free version magically disappeared...

Was looking to give this a try after WeatherDock died but if there's no free version ...that's a shame... could at least put a "LITE" version in the store or something...

On to other alternatives...

I discontinued the free version because I switched over to a premium weather source rather than relying on free sources. This allowed me to add more data to MenuWeather. I suppose I could still have a free version that uses free weather sources and doesn't provide much information. But why spend time maintaining two apps when I can spend more time making MenuWeather an even better app?

Bushwhack replied on 21 Nov 2011
You actually are right. I mistook this app for another one.
I remember I had emailed you I think a few months ago and was quite happy with the correspondance that we had about the app when you were still using free sources.

I bought this app from the app store and I am quite happy with it so far.

Would recommend it to others. ^_^

This is an improvement over the previous version. Added air pressure, radar map zoom in and out, better location search and hourly updates. The developer listens to suggestions and has made this app better. I am still unsure of the use of customweather.com instead of weatherchannel.com which is what used to be used.

I find this app very useful and prefer it over WeatherDock simply because its handier being able to access the weather immediately from the menubar.

I have the free version 3.12 and don't live in the States, so there's no need for me to upgrade but I'd be quite happy to pay $2.99 if that's what I was charged and the software was as stable as the version I'm currently using.

I agree with Bigboysdad in almost every respect, word-for-word, as British Isles are not covered for Radar etc... But I am not prepared to pay App Store when my MenuWeather works without fault, I have sent donations to Evan Coleman recognising good work he has done already. Thank you for your objective reply here.
I am NOT impressed with presumed-hoax 'Steven P Jobs'.

I have troubles understanding App Store. It seems every minor x.x.x update is payable? I have downloaded the highly useful 'Alfred' which was Free at v0.9. I think I downloaded another "Not-A-Lot' app but my concern is alos for the Dock icon showing a "Red 1". Am I in some way in-hock to Apple App Store?

The App Store will have to evolve to be more transparent and be more clear in Plain Crystal Clear English, NOT legalese. I would welcome an official Jobs' letter via Mobile Me.

Meanwhile, Five Stars to MenuWeather. Adrien UK

For $2.99 it's seriously halfassed compared to the FREE Meteorologist, WeatherDock, Weather Vane, Outside and a couple others.

Save your money, or at least spend it on things made by people who make an effort. Just don't give it to these greedy, lazy losers.

A new version which fixes the bugs has been in review by Apple for a week or so. The reason that I overlooked the bugs in 3.2 was because I've been very busy with my school work (I'm in college) and haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on MenuWeather. This summer, however, MenuWeather will be pretty much rewritten.

I have given up on this app as well. While the 2.99 is not a problem. having a functioning app is. MeunWeather simply does not work on my MBP. The lite version does. I will remove both, Apple can keep the 2.99 but from now on I will try to find non-App Store versions of apps. Not having a try before you buy option sucks. Thus the following ratings. This applies to the MeunWeather app, not the lite version.

"Apple can keep the 2.99"

I only keep $1.

The untrustworthy developer who provides a non-working spying-ware version of his paid app gets to keep his $2.

You'd think the spyware "phone-hone" fiasco he did would scare folks off his app. But he's still getting folks to give him money to give him for his scam.

What scam? You seem to be the only one who cares about the "phone home" bug which was only present in 3.1.2 and didn't send me any sensitive information. If you really object to spending $2.99, then download the free Lite version.

I love the speed improvement. There is a problem after waking up from sleep though. The app freezes with the spinning beach ball when hovering the icon, and the only way to quit is to kill the process.

MenuWeather freezes a second or two after waking up, so I'm even able to open the menu before it hangs.

However, when it launches, and after asking me if I allow it to use my current location, it just puts the temperature in the Menubar and hangs, consuming 100% of the CPU, and not giving access to the menu. I tried to delete all the preferences and associated files, but it does not change anything.
