By far the best of the pack. Great app.
I would even pay for this.

What kind of encryption does Keka use? I haven't been able to find a clear answer on this. Does it use AES-256?

Keka uses 7-zip, which uses AES-256 encryption.

It always has been a cool tool, but now with the adition of the (working) progress bar and the other improvements in the file type management it's just great.

I was used to Rucksack (archiver) cuz was easy and has a pretty UI but it cost some bucks and it's queue management sucks. I like how Keka doeas the compresion queue part (still can be inproved). And the best of all is + opensource, fact that i really love. =)

Now after the v1.0.2 the only thing which is still missing is some cute icons for the document types.

A very good application.

I like the way it make 7z with encrypted filenames. Better than old 7zX.

I don't like much the icon but it has the merit to be a original work.

I needed to split a large archive into segments and happened to stumble upon Keka; it worked brilliantly. The only thing that might be missing from this application would be an action "Ask what to do" for compressing/uncompressing archives. All around this application is a definite winner.

Just when I thought Keka couldn’t get any better, the addition of a progress bar has made it even more gratifying to use. Never thought about it before, but now I can’t do without it.

Version 1.0 also seems a hair faster than before, but just a hair.

I only have 2 things on my wish list. I’d love it if a preference could somehow be fashioned to keep Keka’s Dock icon from sliding up/down when I drag a file to it. If I pull the file smack-dab into the middle of the Dock icon there’s no problem, but I’m usually too rushed to hit it just right and have to fish up or down to get the icon to sit still long enough to nail it. Obviously, this is a design fault of the Dock rather than Keka, but a fix from either quarter would be welcome.

My other wish is for a new Keka icon — though it’s definitely creative and unique, it still grosses me out. I must have had an incident with a similar critter as a child that I’ve conveniently blocked from memory, but I nevertheless have a visceral reaction every time I need to compress a file!

But in every other way, Keka is a truly great app, and I thank the dev for his/her gift.

lolita, you can lock the icons on the dock with a terminal command:

(you want the first one on the list)

Outstanding software, works great!

Two minor wishes for any upcoming version:

Please implement a small target window where you can drop stuff on to compress it. Would be easier to handle than drop all on the dock icon, IMO.

Compressing/decompressing currently always throws two concurrent growl messages (Growl 1.3.3 here). Though this is merely a cosmetic issue, I'd like to see it corrected.

Other than that: Absolutely great value software! Please keep up the good work, Mr. developer.

Thanks for your review :)

About the target window, actually 1.0 version has it. Just drop anything to the main window. It has a bug if "ask each time" option is selected but the fix is on it's way.

About the Growl thing... I can't duplicate it, but I'm with 1.2.2 yet... Maybe deleting Keka from Growl preferences solves it. If this is not a Growl thing please make a ticket! http://trac.kekaosx.com

Mr. Developer ;)

Removed Keka's setting from the Growl prefs, but the Growl alert still shows up twice after that. Dunno if it's Growl related or Keka related. I'd be glad if you update to the new Growl version and investigate the issue.

Thanks again!

So I'm confused. The MacUpdate page says the program is free while the App store lists it for $1.99. While this is a reasonable price for one of the few Mac utilities that can do encrypted 7-Zip archives, I'd like to know that the correct price is...

Actually you can get it free from the website or contribute to the project buying it from the App Store at the reasonable price :)

Martinb had trouble on 29 Nov 2011
Keka has been working for me very good for a long time as the standard application for expanding zip archives etc.

Recently I had a problem: When trying to unzip the text editor EDDIE 2.1 (http://el34software.com/latest/Eddie%20OSX%202.1.zip) with keka 0.1.4.2 , I got a prompt requiring a password (although there is no password set) and could not unzip the zip file.
(with the built-in archiving tool in OS 10.6 it works perfectly.)

Kind regards

Martin

This is fixed in 1.0 version. I've tested with 0.1.4.2/0.1.4.3 and you were right, it asked for a password.

I will make a deep investigation so this doesn't happens again.

Thanks and sorry for the late!

Even I change the location to extract the files, the program only strategic for the same file folder. I've changed so much to custom folder (which I do not know what would be) and to ask before extracting.

New version 0.1.5b1 Works fine. In the old version I did not obtain to make to function. I find that only program lacks to a function it to stay killer, It would like to be able to compress the archives and to divide they in parts, because when I want to copy an image of dvd for mine pendrive it has that to be lesser that 4gb because of fat32, then necessary to divide it in 2 parts. I will buy in Mac App Store when version 1.5 is lauched. Thanks for your work.

Keka 1.4.1 has a major bug that keeps it from closing - not just when it's finished compressing or extracting, but all the time. The only way to shut it down is to force quit. This is one of my favorite must=have apps, but this version is a bit sickly. I'll alert its developers.

Just you and another user (via sourceforge) noticed that. It's an important bug unresolved yet, all growl click feedback goes nowhere when Keka it's not opened. I wanted to reply your mail, but there was no reply address (I have to improve the comment form!).
By the way, you're running Keka in a Leopard OS?

Thanks for your feedback!
