Zimbra Desktop gives users access to the same sleek Zimbra experience, and showcases the latest technologies that have until now only been available via Web-based applications including:
  • 'Mash-ups' with other services; for example, when viewing an e-mail, users can see their schedule by hovering over a date, or see the status of a flight by looking at a flight number;
  • Powerful search that can quickly scan a user's e-mail and pull up relevant content;
  • Built-in organization capabilities including automatically converting e-mails into conversations and advanced tagging;

Major Issues Fixed:
  • 32238: Syncing trash and spam folders now takes place last in the syncing process.
  • 42664: Sync indicator no longer continues to spin after sync is finished.
  • 60209/ 62051: Zimbra Desktop now handles recurrence series update in a way compatible with Microsoft Exchange. When the organizer updates the time of a series, all the exception instances are deleted. Zimbra Desktop warns about this when the organizer is about to make the change. ZCS customers who prefer the old behavior, where updates to the series are applied without affecting exception instances, can set the account/COS attribute zimbraCalendarKeepExceptionsOnSeriesTimeChange to TRUE (default is FALSE).
  • 60748: When using Chrome for Zimbra Desktop, the issue that caused the new line to be added below the signature when composing a reply has been fixed.
  • 60998: There is a message indexing issue where the subject was mistakenly repeated during the index that results in incorrect search results when using quotes in a phrase query. For example, if the subject is One Two Three Four and the search query is "Four One", the search results return the subject, One Two Three Four. But a subject search for a phrase consisting of the last word of the subject followed by the first word should not match. The issue has been fixed, but to fix the indexing after an upgrade you will need to re-index all messages.
  • 61253: Intermittent message body going blank no longer occurs after hitting reply/forward.
  • 61403: Ability to add a room or a resource with correct maximum participant number and free/busy information displayed.
  • 61677: Error is no longer given when downloading multiple documents in shared briefcase.
  • 62022: AOL account now updates sent items properly.
  • 62447: Zimbra Desktop does not allow deleting a Gmail native folder (such as "Starred" folder).
  • 62543: Fixed error that occurred when selecting Gmail on account set up page.
  • 62581: Fixed the issued that caused an error when changing the calender for an appointment to Local Calender.
  • 62656: Webex Zimlet updates start/end times when modified.
  • 62722: Fixed issue that caused delivery failure of Yahoo! mail.
  • 62996: Auto synchronization no longer stops after deleting messages.
  • 63136: Fixed issue where shared calendar is erased.
  • 63233: Fixed the issue that caused the need to re-authenticate Zimbra Desktop account every five minutes.
  • 63287: Correct URL is now sent when multiple items are shared in briefcase.
  • 63336: Calendar no longer goes blank when navigating through calendar.
  • 63414: Yahoo! authentication no longer occurs frequently.
  • 63469: Text entry pane no longer loses focus during auto-save.
  • 63596: Now able to add Twitter account in Social Zimlet
  • 63819: Removing briefcase file tag from the Zimbra Desktop user interface also removes the file tag from the server.
  • 63933: Self registration is supported from the Webex Zimlet.
  • 64027: GAL no longer missing entries.
If upgrading from previous installations of Zimbra Desktop, already installed Zimlets remain. (Bug 61927)
  • The Socialcast account can now be added and configured using the Social Zimlet. (Bug 60813)
  • Zimbra Desktop prompts for a password when it cannot authenticate against the mail server. (Bug 54058)

    Installed this this thing out of curiosity. Can't figure out why anyone would decide to use this with its overly complex UI. Reminds me of Outlook. Can't sync calendars or contacts without Zimbra dialing Youtube. What the ----? No thank you. Bad app. In the trash you go.

    I really like the newly updated Zimbra. I find it fast and the search capabilities extensive; also saved searches. I like the fact that I can right-click on a senders name in the message pane and search all messages from that sender quickly.

    The last time I tried Zimbra was several months ago and I would have given it 3 stars then. But this recent update shows there's been many changes -- some nice changes.

    i completely agree with Smtips. this is a horrible app. i do not get all the raving. it has been broken since v2.x when yahoo! bought out zimbra. had hopes when vmware in turn bought it from yahoo!, but other than improving the gui, not much has changed.

    local mail storage is not fully recognized by the application...it's like a separate and not equal account. cannot be searched, which is pretty much the point of a database email application. saved search queries missing beaucoup messages on the server as well...which is easy to check with the web app version. tags will not migrate between server and local storage, in fact, tags will be removed when moving messages between server and local.

    calendar is just plain horrendous. settings and preferences are the most convoluted i've seen in a very long time. must re-position windows and panels on each startup.

    it is a constant fight with this app, which is pretty sad for email. email has been around for what now, 40 years? and these guys still can't generate an app that works for basic functionality? v7.x is prettier and faster than v1.x or v2.x ever were, but that's about the only positive thing i can say about it. pretty and fast doesn't matter much when the darn thing can't find 75% of your mail.

    Horrible app. All this raving about it, I tried to put in my yahoo email and password and it just did nothing. I completely uninstalled it, reinstalled it, tried again and it didn't work just like before. Said it was unable to find yahoo LOL.

    But the worst of the whole thing is, I emailed these people well over a week ago and they never responded.

    I think this company is attempting to harvest emails and logins for their own use. I would definitely NOT trust a company who refuses to respond to a query about their app where you have to put in your EMAIL PASSWORD.

    Zimbra really needs to be spun back off into their own company. It is too nice an app/server for what it is getting. The increased Yahoo logo plastering is really holding them back. As long as Microsoft has partnered up with them, I just really don't see them allowing Zimbra to grow and flourish since it would put too much pressure on Exchange.

    It has taken a while to become useful, but is coming along nicely now. I still prefer Apple Mail for my day-to-day mail, but this program is less of a headache than running iCal using CalDAV on our university system.
