like corpsecorps said and also the watermark issue, no option to disable subtitles from the caps and no customizing text options makes it limited.
the dev encourages you to contact him with bugs or suggestions but he never replies. why his contact is there, i will never know.
anyway, it hit the status of appstore-only-download so i won't bother with future updates anymore.
there is much demand for specific mac apps on which a dev could take some profit out of it if he/she were smart enough to see the software gaps in os x. a decent subtitle downloader (recently taken by "subsmarine"), a real-time login items manager with presets (just an idea), a movie info and poster downloader and sheet maker (recently found "dunex"), come to mind.
The main reason for not updating Screen Grabber between 2006 and 2011 is that in the same years I got a total of $8 in donations. Not an encouraging amount, or even close to making it worthwhile updating an app that do what I need it for myself.
The Mac App Store has changed that. I am not going to be rich or quit my day job. But is enough to validate updates and reasonable feature requests.

---------
It works.
It adds the specs of the Video and Audio tracks.
The Cons:
---------
No interface until you open a Video.
It doesn't allow specification of a save location.
It watermarks the result over the video frames.
It's maximum grid width is a puny 640 pixels in this age of HD.
Textual Information can be cropped if the final image is too narrow.
No WMV even with Flip4Mac
No FLV support, even if you have a QT plugin.
No m4v loading.
If you have Flip4Mac, WMV is displayed. I waited until the video was completely imported and when I started the capture, it finished very quickly and appeared to work (showed intermittent frames) but rendered empty frames!
It could use a few more formatting possibilities, too.

it's not free but cheap
The v2.3 update bumps the max size to 4094 pixels, and grid to max 64x64.
For best WMV-support you should use Perian. There is support for it even in versions previous to 2.3 (you just have to patiantly wait). v2.3 fixes this issue and will not begin grab before Quicktime has buffered enough of the video to take captures.
Some video formats are not properly registered to the system as video files. If they can be viewed in Quicktime player then Screen Grabber can handle them. Best way is to use the "Open with…" contextual menu, and enable "All Applications".
