BOOM will take you back to the days of classic arcade game Bomberman? In fact, even if you don't remember Bomberman, you won't be disappointed by Boom. BOOM is an arcade game in the grand tradition, bringing the playability and feel of the glorious 8-bit consoles on the Macintosh. As a space marine your mission is to penetrate 8 alien infested areas, each one divided in 10 sub-zones, eliminate all enemies using your bombs and finally kick the Big Alien Boss back to where he came from.
What's New
Version 2.0.5:
Fixed an issue that caused the player to become invincible after losing a life just an instant before advancing to the next level.
Love it. Played it for 10+ years now. BUT PLEASE make a Boom2 or add on levels. I would love to see new content and after 10+ years I think its time for more!
Having played the previous version for some time, I knew after my first game in v 2.1 that the developer did make Boom more difficult to master; I've never advanced very far through the levels but now, my scores are lower than before. The game will kick yourass with the greatest of ease.
Anyway, a rather pleasant diversion, albeit quite a frustrating one.
As a previous commenter pointed out, getting trounced and then starting from the beginning over and over again does get to be a big drag.
Still, Boom is a keeper.
V2.1 has got some bugs but the developer has been alerted.
Hope the developer has the balls to remain totally independent and keep everything "in house" including marketing and sales.
I'd much rather deal directly with the developer rather than slosh around in the MacCrap Store cesspool.
They don't need to add it to the Mac App Store: it already is on Macupdate :-) If they add it to the App Store and I buy it there, then they have to share the money I pay them for BOOM with Apple (which did not write this game). That does not seem to be clever... Is selling directly without the involvement of the App Store better ?
.
Because App Store gives an incredibly visibility. For me it gives easy, automatic updates and lifetime license. I would prefer to buy it on Mac App Store if i could have the choice.
I think people are going crazy i even receive insult by mail just because i suggest to put it on App Store too?
Don't worry, I know what you mean, ikir! 66¢ on a dollar earned is still 66¢ from more customers- a lot of people, I'm sure, didn't even know Bioshock and Borderlands were available for Mac! I know when I got my copy of Bioshock from J&R two guy adjacent to me said "Bioshock's available for Mac?"
Agree Ikir, you entered a comment which is your view and should be respected. I agree, yes Apple take some fee (as does Paypal etc) but the visibility is high and people rely on the "security" of it being there. I purchased Borderlands there and as mentioned already didn´t knew it existed for Mac until I saw it there : )
Old school style arcade game....I found it good fun for a while but gets tedious after playing many games since, like most games, one has to start again at square one over and over and plod back trying for a higher score, which DOES get to be a real drag, at least for me.
Still, at just $10, it's a bargain for one of the better arcade style games.
Yeah, it's 'an oldy but a goody'.

Tons of fun, especially when two players share the same cramped keyboard and start to panic when swamped by aliens. Worth every cent.

When you register the game you are allowed to save and resume the games.
My only gripe is the current high scores the game downloaded. Some cheater filled the list obviously.
