The beta v.3.8b4 was nice and worked well on my G5 but it expired 5/31/11.
Nothing newer on Boinx website
http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/beta/

Does anyone know if a new beta version is available?
Boinx folks?

Thanks in advance....

I'm not sure why this great app has 2 stars so I'm sharing my experience with other MacUpdate users....
It's a long one......

MY GOAL: I've been on a long search for a good app to produce slide shows to be played on pro-sumer DVD players or by upscaling to 720p or 10280p and seen on HDTV's.

APPS TRIED BUT NOT HAPPY WITH:
I tried PowerPoint - quality is good only when played in PowerPoint on a pc or mac; picture quality is horrible when exported and burned to a DVD.
I also tried Slick Motion, Still Life (before HDTV days), iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Photo To Movie (colors shifted after exported to DVD), Pulp Motion - or combination of the above -- They all had poor picture quality by the time I got a slide show on DVD.
I was very disappointed when I viewed my slide shows on TV or HDTV (played on a DVD player).

FOUND MY ANSWER: I recently tried version 3.7.3 on my friend's G5.
I also have a G5 but don't have FotoMagico Pro yet - I'd consider buying it next time there's a MacUpdate bundle.

MY FIRST PROJECT WITH FOTOMAGICO: a slide show about 30 minutes long with about 240 pictures and some short movie clips. This was my process:
1) Started the project. Setting = "Present on "HDTV (720)".
2) Edited slide show with motion, transitions, titles, narrations, etc.
3) Done. Export setting = "Share my slideshow as "DVD"
4) Came back the next day it was ready....
5) Burned the .mov file onto DVD in Toast.

FEATURES: *****
I used and liked drag & drop, movie support, motion (zoom, scale, rotate); iPhoto & iTunes Library integration, multiple audio tracks, narration recorder, adjust color, export as DVD, export to HD Movie.

EASY OF USE: ******
I found FotoMagico very easy and intuitive to use. I didn't need to read any instructions and was able to do motion with static pictures - a lot of people like that "cool KenBurn thingie"!

SLIDE SHOW QUALITY: *****
I burned the slide show on a DVD-R and it was played on my G5, MacBookPro, 62"HDTV, digital slide projector, multiple consumer and pro-sumer DVD players.

The image quality was CRISP and SHARP!!!!!
I was so happy to finally see the pictures in motion the way I expected!!
I also received many compliments for the slide show!!!

G5 SUPPORT: *****
I'm so glad this software still works on a G5 running 10.5.8.
It never crashed during my project.

PRICE:***
I have to agree with some other reviewers that the price for the Pro version is a bit steep - it's out of my reach at this time - and I do need Multiple Audio Tracks, narration, audio ducking, export to HD movie.

Hey these Boinx guys need their pizzas and beer to make the software.
It cost me a few pizzas and cases of beer to try it on my friend's G5 & FotoMagico.

I hope Boinx won't drop support for G5 anytime soon, especially with Lion lurking around recently.

THANKS for a great software and again for supporting G5 users!!!!

I have used the Fotomagico Pro trial and found it easy to use with excellent end result. However I have been unable to directly access Lightroom to transfer the photos. Instead I have had to export the photos and then import them in to Fotomagico. So far Fotomagico haven't provided any assistance.

Fotomagico was a breeze to use. I put together a stunning slideshow quickly. However, about a month after the slideshow was created, photos began to disappear from both the version on my hard drive AND on two DVD disks I had burned. The very same photos were missing on all three. On one of the disks, the music mysteriously stopped playing halfway through the show.

I have since read on this website of other people who have had photos disappear and the screen goes to black, and that there is no way to fix this other than to rebuild the slideshow from scratch.

I was using the demo of the latest version, Fotomagico Pro 3. Needless to say, I will not be paying the steep $150 to buy the software.

Hi Kwkoonce,
sorry to hear about your problems that you attribute to FotoMagico. Please note however that it is impossible, even for us being rather talented developers (we received 2 Apple Design Awards from Apple for FotoMagico) to delete data from a burned DVD.
Please also note that version 2.x had the option (for disk space efficiency) to not include the original image files inside the slideshow document. As it was causing too much problems for some customers we removed that option starting with version 3.0. All media files required for a slideshow are now always stored inside the slideshow file.
And lastly, please note that an upgrade from FotoMagico 1.x or 2.x to the latest 3.7 is $89, not $150, see http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ For years of hard work we believe this is a fair deal. We have released numerous free feature updates since the paid 3.0 update was release in May 2009.
Greetings,
Florian Albrecht

Well I must say I was an happy Fotomagico 2 Pro user, until version 3 came out!
Then, de ridiculous upgrade price from versio 2 pro to version 3 pro made me look out for an alternative.
So now I use Pulpmotion 3 wich is affordable and works reel slick!

You know, money isn't the only thing in this world that gives you a good feeling!
I think a lot of Fotomagico 2.x pro users won't upgrade to version 3 pro even is the latter was 20 times better!!!
It's just that we 2.x pro users feel pretty much sacked by Boinx!!

Thanks 4 nothing.......

@ Marcel

I'm not sure what you're complaining about... that you didn't get enough use out of v.2 before v.3 came out? Most apps charge to upgrade, and the better the app, the more time it probably took to develop and polish the upgraded features! (AlienSkin's Photoshop filters, for instance, can be pricey upgrades, but are well worth the $)

FotoMagico 3 has been out for 13 months now, with regular improvements and updates. I was not a v.2 user, but I've had good luck with v.3 and appreciate its friendly UI.

How do you think can we feed our families if we should work for free? FotoMagico 3 was really hard work to develop, and don't you want to be paid for hard work as well?

It would be nice to see what this App is all about, but every time I visit their site, the page starts to load, then I get the beachball and finally Safari crashes; any ideas Boinx? It certainly doesn't fill me with much confidence in a Mac App who's site crashes the main Mac browser!

Always Frame Rate Lost in Preset Export
Always Size Export Lost in Presets Export (Native not work)
Always Ask config the Display (let us choose one time, after we'll modify if request)
Always Need re config Export (Codecs & all !!) (make me fever for tests and big projects)

Please add a Preset manager in Preferences (like old one), than we no need do the same things all time, and lost time to do slideshows…

Not Trully Leopard Compatible

If you wanna sell it, made it better / easier than iPhoto because for 49$; iLife is only for 99$ with iMovie, GarageBand, iDVD, etc…
