Othello/Reversi board.

Overview

MacIago is a strategic computer game based on the Othello/Reversi board game and inspired on the 1984 mac game "Iago" made by David Reed (hence the similar name).

The game is played with a board on which you have to enclose the opponent pieces between your own. All the enclosed pieces will be converted to your own in the eight possible directions. Each move must result in at least one conversion. When such move is not possible the turn is forfeited. The game ends when none of the players is able to make a move. The player with the most pieces at the end of the game wins.

What's new in MacIago

Version 3.6.2 fixes a nasty startup crash on 10.4 systems and improves the Artificial Intelligence, it also fixes some minor bugs. Thanks to Yann Ricquebourg for the French Translation and Christopher Li for the Japanese Translation!

This has to be one of the worst othello programs I've ever seen. Even at its most "difficult" level I won 64-0, 3 times in a row. Long live Cassio by Stephane Nicolet, the only serious othello implementation for Macintosh!

"No Mountable File Systems" was reported by the DMG. Did you create the disk image to open only on 10.4+?

I wish for 2 major things: 1.) It would be great if it remembered the game state, if you quit the app and then open it again. 2.) Simple network play (at least in a LAN). Otherwise, looking real good! Thanks!

This is a great, simple Othello game. I wish the dev would release a Universal Binary, and a simple network play option! Still works great under Tiger.

Absolutely amazing... the only two freeware othello clones I've tried don't allow the simple ability of changing the color of the pieces or the board to any set of 2 basic colors. What's up with that? It really can't be that hard. I'm glad there's a feature to shut off the "showing available moves"... that feature was a bit annoying. This and has a few more features than Javersi though it isn't as fast while running (It might not even be noticeable depending on your computers speed; it is faster than Javersi starting up). Good job to the authors of MacIago and Javersi for making decent othello games. A few more added features and these games will really shine.

Nice GUI and game play but AI is really simple to beat.

I´d like it to have the possibility to play in a bigger board, like the original game had. It´s over too quickly this way.
