OpenGL-rendered desktop globe.

Overview

EarthGlobe is a real-time, OpenGL rendered globe. Designed as a sister application to MoonDock - it provides a lightweight view of the Earth day-light/seasonal cycles and takes up few system resources so it can be left running on your desktop. This is a preview version, features are subject to change - feedback much appreciated.

I like it but the globe isn't big enough. I could also do without the clouds.

This is lovely, but the more recent, very similar TerraVista (also free) renders a finer, more detailed image, and can be made considerably larger than the image in EarthGlobe. It also has more night highlight options.

Neat application! Wish the earth map could be made larger. Even at max size setting the map image is too small to make out much detail........

Very sweet. Kudos to the developer for making these both free. They are pretty full-featured, but yes, larger would be a nice option. He might be using icns files, however, so they might not be scalable over 128.. When set to max size for both apps, the Earth one seems to be larger than the moon, I wonder if they are relative size.. most likely not. Would be cool though. Seems to be pretty low-profile CPU-wise on the Activity Monitor as well, so I assume it won't chew up memory over time, each app is using about 22 MB right now. Nice work!
