Version 8.4.2.9 is the latest version that seems to work on my 2009 MacBook Pro 17" running OS X 10.8.3. Version 8.5 does not work and in fact, removes a file called DYMO_LabelWriter_400.ppd from the hidden cups location. Also version 8.5 does not recognize my USB connected Labelwriter 400.

Finally, under previous versions of Mountain Lion I was able to print a label using the software while the printer was disconnected, then carry my laptop over to the printer, connect it and have the labels print. Under 8.4.2.9 and OS X 10.8.3, doing this causes the printer to show as disconnected even after physical connection with no (known to me) remedy short of yanking the entire Dymo installation, installing 8.4.2.9 from scratch and scrounging a copy of DYMO_LabelWriter_400.ppd from an old backup.

To summarize my experience under ML 10.8.3: I need to ALWAYS connect the Dymo printer prior to hitting the Print button on their software and stick with this version rather than updating to 8.5.

This version appears to be permanently DOA on Mountain Lion. The Dymo site lists a more recent version -- 8.4.2, from 01-Nov-2012 -- which might work under Mountain Lion 10.8.2 with models more recent than the LabelWriter 400. Good luck.

The download above does not work with 10.8.2 and the 450.

Anyone else got any suggestions?

DYMO Label v.8.4.2 (01-Nov-2012) is available on the Dymo site at http://download.dymo.com/software/mac/MacDls842Installer.dmg -- but it still doesn't appear to support older models or sharing via another host on the same network.

Confirmed: DYMO Label 8.4.2 doesn't support the LabelWriter 400 under Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (despite conflicting info on the Dymo info page which claims that it does). Users of Mountain Lion with more recent LabelWriter models may have better luck.

I posted my experience with 8.4.2.9 in the Troubleshooting section here and it may be of help. Tedious and potentially treacherous for the inexperienced user but it worked for me.

I am trying to print UPC-A barcodes on Dymo barbell labels but the barcode will not fit even when you select "small" in label writer software. Nor will it allow you to manually adjust the resolution.

This version actually made my Dymo 330 Turbo work on my computer and is an easy and convenient software for quick layouts on my label printer on demand

This fixed my Mac 10.8 server and 10.7.4 laptop. For some reason, I was not able to push the installer through Apple Remote Desktop and have it work, I had to manually run it, but it made a handful of my customers really happy to be able to use their beloved Dymo again.

Love my Dymo Labelwriter 400, but sadly this software has lost support for using the Dymo as a shared printer on a Mac network when running OSX 10.8 :(
I have 2 iMacs in my office and could print my labels from either of them in 10.68 by enabling printer sharing via system preferences.
This feature worked fine on both Macs in 10.68, but refuses to in OSX 10.8.
It prints okay directly from USB on the host iMac, but when I try and add the Dymo as a shared printer on the networked imac (running OSX 10.8), I get a message saying 'The software for the printer you are trying to install is no longer supported. Please contact the servers administrator'
I was hoping this update (8.4.1.1) would resolve this issue, but sadly it does not.
Please fix this frustrating problem ASAP, as I cannot properly use the label writer as it currently is.

Thanks

Interesting... I get a driver error under 10.8, and the app quits -- but that's with an older LabelWriter 400. Are you on the final, retail build of 10.8?

Just curious: Are you still on 8.4.0.1759? Build 1803 doesn't work for me under 10.8, either, but it works for Fishboy. For now, I'm using it through a VMWare-virtualized Snow Leopard Server machine under Mountain Lion, but this is less than perfect.

I managed to get v8.4.2.9 working on my MBP Core 2 Duo running Mountain Lion and connected via USB. Main problem was that the installer would run satisfactorily, then in the OS X Printers and Scanners Preference Pane, I would try to Add (+) my Dymo 400 printer and the Name and Location of the printer were shown, but the driver could not be found. Also, the Dymo Label app could not find the printer and advised reinstallation. This did not help. Using EasyFind, I removed all Files containing the string “Dymo” in them except for the cups Dymo 400 Labelwriter.PPD and a cups filter “rastertodymo.” I had to enable EasyFind to look for hidden files and folders and iTweax to make hidden files appear in the Finder. By the way, the Dymo uninstaller is a joke. Fuggetaboutit. I then installed v8.4.2.9 with the Dymo unplugged and plugged it in only at the end as recommended. I still had no luck with the Add Printer Preference Pane and the Dymo Label app. On a hunch (or last gasp), I restarted the machine and suddenly everything worked. The Dymo 400 was there; I didn't even need to “Add” it; it was already there. The Dymo Label app worked. I restored my “DYMO Label Software” folder to my Documents folder as that is where my custom labels are stored. Seems to me that this company has terrible documentation which leads to a terrible experience. However the software, once installed, seems to work well enough. Apologies for the long post.

I am a Mac user since 1985 and consulted during the 90's. It is always vexing to make something work but to have no idea how you got it to work. No console logs, nothing. I suspect a cache needed flushing and that happened during the restart. Or a kext needed to be touched, noticed or loaded. Because of the cost of labels and labor, we have moved largely to double window envelopes anyway.

Just to clarify that I am using Dymo software v8.4.1.1803 on both iMacs. The host iMac is running OSX10.68 and has the printer connected via USB (printer sharing enabled in system preferences).
The other iMac used to be able to see and print to the Dymo like any other shared printer, but since the recent update of one iMac to OSX10.8, this has become impossible.
It still see's the printer, but when you try and add it you get the error message.
Please fix, as it's the only thing stopping me from installing OSX10.8 on both iMacs.
Thanks

Finally. Hours and hours of trying to find the driver on the Dymo website and it's not there!!!
Darn if I could not find the installer disc for my LabelWriter 330 after all these years!
The directions to look in the user/library/printers folder sent me to the old back up hard drive and presto, there it was, the LabelWriter 330 driver, Ver 6.5 all 475k of it.
Copied it over to the OS X 10.6.7 printers folder, closed all the open windows and then erased the current label writer (DYMO 007) and reinstalled the LabelWriter one more time, this time I had a choice of drivers, the DYMO driver (no not this one) or the LabelWriter 330 (finally) and viola, the Dymo software no longer says no driver found, and the printing works like a charm.
Labels and Addresses now works correctly as well. When the driver was the DYMO driver the Labels and Addresses would try to print a label, actually it would print on a label, but the fields were completely misaligned, now it's the way it used to be with Mail Factory.
If anyone needs a copy of the driver I will send it to a few people and they can then share it further!
Thank you for the suggestion to look for the old driver, having lost the installer disc, I had no clue what to look for.
You can be sure I will be burning this to a CD and keeping it safe.

Hi I'm having trouble with my MacBook Pro Ver 10.6.8 and the Dymo labelwriter 400 software. I've tried a number of times to download the software and it seems to download okay, but when I go to open the program its declines saying I do not have the correct driver running the printer. the only driver option on my printer list is Dymo Label Printer which I select. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Gary

Did you have your LabelWriter 400 installed on a previous Mac? Do you still have that Mac or a back up copy of it's hard drive? The driver is still in that User Folder.
