Overview

NewsMac is like an Internet news agent, it brings together all your favorite news Web sites into one place, and lets you view the current headlines for which ever ones you choose. When you see something that interests you, you\'re just one click away from reading that news story in your favorite Web browser.

What's new in NewsMac

Version 3.2:
  • Updated channel database - we\'ve fixed some channels and removed some dead ones.
  • This version offers a work around for a bug in Mac OS X 10.3.9 which can cause applications that use WebKit to crash when loading HTML.
  • We have dropped the English only version of NewsMac now, this version contains all the language localizations.

This is definitely one of the best RSS readers. It's got some flaws, but it's fairly easy to use and has a nice interface and a convenient "Feed Finder" which doubles as a browser. (It would be nice if you could enter web URLs into the text field, though.)

First time I looked at NewsMac, it looked like a real good syndicate client. After first launche I got a new impression of it. A baaad one. NewsMac is really hard to configure and you'll get really mad at it after a couple of minutes. Why can't I delete the Japanses directory? I can't read Japanse and therefor I don't need it! But NewsMac wound let me remove it... Or any other directory for that sake. Hm, what's this? iTunes crashed during music upload on my iPod? Why?... Oh... NewsMac was updateing the syndicates... The iPod syndcate feature was really cool, but news on my iPod? Ehh... Maybe not...

This seems to be very nice software, but I can't get a feed added to it - even one that was originally in the app, but I removed. Gonna have to contact the author I guess.

Nevermind - my bad :/ Outgoing access was blocked for the app and instead of giving me an error that feed was unavailable, it just didn't let me try to add it.

Fabulous freeware! This is amazing value... One feature I would like to see is the ability to open Web pages in a new browser Tab (in the background) rather than a new window. This would make less window clutter. I am a Mozilla user but if this could be implemented for at least Safari and Mozilla/Netscape/Firefox NewsMac would be the best!

You can do it in Safari and Camino. This configuration is done in the browser preferences. Set it to open new links in a new tab in the same window.

Excellent news app. Definately a real competitor to NetNewsWire. I like being able to sync with my iPod but only headlines and sometimes summaries are synced but I think NewsMac is at the mercy of the websites, they decide how much to provide to RSS feeds if I'm not mistaken. My only gripe with NewsMac is that if the app crashes (which it has a couple times already in 1/2 hour), then any settings you changed since the last lauch are lost. For instance, if I add a bunch of channels to my favorites or synced list and change some ratings for other channels, then NewsMac unexpectedly quits, I loose everything I just did.

Wow this is a really cool news app!! I much prefer this over NNW, I don't need the blogging stuff and Newsmac lets me read the news on my Zire on the way to work :-D

Downloads only the headline and not the whole story to my Palm. It will be usable when it can do two things. 1) Download the entire story to my Palm 2) Automatic sync to my Palm

NewsMac 3 does sync the whole story with your Palm, if you want it to.

Most of the performance problems are down to Java 1.4.1, the next update to this (probably part of Panther) should really speed up NewsMac.

I ran this on my G4 DP 1.25 with 1.5gigs of ram and it was bloggy; not my choice after I got NNW, if this shows improvement it might get somewhere, until then...
