Lights Out overview

Lights Out enables hot corners to put your Mac to sleep or keep it awake. Lights Out can set sleep on or off for individual applications. Lights Out cures Energy-Saver insomnia.

Many software packages, scanners, and peripherals can interfere with your Mac's normal sleeping patterns. Lights Out offers a secondary idle timer to put your Mac to sleep even when Energy Saver fails to do so.

Lights Out gives you easy control and status of system sleep right from its Dock icon. Simple to configure, and simple to use, Lights Out makes no harmful changes to your system. Launch it and quit it just like any normal app!

Lights Out is Energy Saver's Little Helper!

Features:

  • User definable hot spots for CPU sleep and never sleep.
  • Easily switch sleep on and off.
  • Set sleep on or off for individual applications.
  • Application based for easy installation and stability.
  • Simple to configure and use.

Your effort is appreciated as always, but how did you come up with $10 for the little app? If you offer it for $1 may be change to get more people buy it. There is a free app available that does this minus the timer and hotspots. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/29778/pleasesleep PleaseSleep 2.3 I think $10 is over the top and I don't doubt many fellow Macupdate citizens would more than agree. Cheers.

I've installed lights out there's a few month ago but I don't want to keep it any more. After erase it, application and any prefs, it continue to work. I want to erase it permanently. The question is "HOW ?" (v 2.3.2).

Lights Out is working on my G5 now, and was very shortly after my last comment. Works like a charm, as always. The only feature I would like to see is a "sleep" "force sleep" choice. In other words, a check box that enables the Mac to be put to sleep if idle entirely, but to remain awake if I have EyeTV open. If I forget to make it "inactive", it just goes to sleep...very annoying. Other than that...

Worked well on my G4, 10.3 (something)- 10.4 (something), but doesn't seem to work at all on my G5 (10.4.5). My G5 was sleeping and acting normally before 10.4.5, but now, with or without Lights Out, it won't sleep unless I make it sleep. No new USB, and what's plugged in (in a Belkin hub) I need on a daily. Dunno...

Hello Will software like this help with the "deep sleep" issues that installing 3rd parties USB 2.0 cards sometimes cause? Thanks!

Anyone else having this program stalling? It just becomes completely unresponsive. I've tried trashing the prefs, but it actually seemed to make it worse.

This application just works. My G4 desktop would not reliably go to sleep and would sometimes run for hours on end with the disk spinning all the time due to....well, who knows? No amount of tinkering or operating system upgrading made any difference. No more. Now, with Lights Out running in the background, sleep is just a few minutes away. It never missess a beat.

My Mac won't go to sleep automatically despite my Energy Saver settings. It's probably due to my USB-bus powered scanner that interferes... Thanks to this little app, the Mac goes fast asleep automatically again, and I don't have to worry about forgetting to put it to sleep.

Another program I have not tried and don't intend to. Let me get this straight. You are trying to extract $10 from people that don't know they can set (or too lazy to) their Apple's Energy Saver preferences to go to sleep after 1 minute or longer of idle time and that they can set "Hot Corners" in Apple's Screen Saver preferences or that they can click on "Sleep" in the Apple Menu. If you don't know, please examine Energy Saver and Screen Effects before spending $10. If this fill's a crying unique need for you, please tell everyone by writing a review of what it is, for at least I currently can't imagine it. Or if your that lazy, you deserve to spend $10 on this. I suspect their will be those who refer to the Logout Powerbook feature. To them I say "How is it that much different than Screen Effects requiring you to enter a password to deactivate other than you don't have to reload all your extensions, xcuse me - Login Items, and use valuable power to fetch them from the disk?" As Will Rogers once said "There's a sucker born every minute…"
