Hide Icons overview
Hide Icons simply Hides or Shows Desktop icons either by a menu or by a Services shortcut. It behaves correctly when Expose is invoked and will learn which Desktop goes with which Space by watching you.
Supports any number of monitors and Spaces. Can remove the menu (just re-run Hide Icons for get back the menu). Lazy update (every 1 minute) for time varying Desktop and is aware of Appearances (i.e. Dark Mode) changes for macOS 10.14 and above.

Version 1.2 is available from Mac App store- allows for one click toggle between Show and Hide Desktop icons.
I would update here, but for some reason, macupdate doesn't recognize me as the developer and simply refuses to allow me to take ownership. Alas..
