The Pro version is $5. Here is a list of its features:
- - "Vanilla will never nag you to upgrade, but if you’d like, you can unlock the Pro version to reach peak Mac minimalism. - -
• Perfect your menu bar by completely hiding icons,
• Hide any app icon from your Mac’s menu bar,
• Compatible with light and dark menu bars,
• Automatically hide icons again after five seconds,
• Start Vanilla automatically when you log in,
• Toggle icons with a keyboard shortcut,
(Seriously, I use this with Command-Shift-< like forty times a day. Get Pro just for this.)"
Works great, went pro. I like it—although Big Sur helps—I really prefer having the option of both. And the last update made fixed the minor glitches it had before.
Great name, great icon, great app.
this software is excellent and free with very good support and quick updates from the developer.... i really can not understand all these negative reviews

Regret my purchase of this paid app, very buggy, constantly hides menu items from the apps I'm using or leaves a weird "Desktop 1" artifact in the center of my screen.
The app is quite buggy: sometimes it hides things that aren't supposed to be hidden (like some random apps and a big chunk of the bar on the top). Overall does its job but can't get it right some 30% of the time. I bought the full version but wouldn't do it again as long as it is still so buggy.
In hope for a future fix I will probably switch to a more reliable competitor.
I'm using version 1.2.2
Works great, I purchased the pro version after getting "need to enable screen recording" in another app that does basically the same thing. The only gripes I have about Vanilla is that in both light and dark modes on Mojave 10.14.6 there is a different shade of the menu bar to the left of the "<" symbol. Also if you're using Xcode or something with a bunch of menu options, they tend to get cut off. Otherwise does what it says without the need of enabling screen recording or other options. I'm using v1.2
Works as promised, but switching between two monitors really slows down the menu bar performance (switching inactive/active state). I also experienced lots of cut off menus after launching apps. Maybe I’ll give this a try again with a later version.
HighSierra - After installing Vanilla my sounds in Apple Mail were gone. Didn't realize the culprit for few days. Then I uninstalled it and the sounds are back. Please fix it. Thanks
I love Vanilla. It keeps all of my apps organized in my menu bar since I have so many. I love being able to decide which ones I always want there, the ones I only want to see upon expansion, and then the icons I want to remove completely. It's an inexpensive app and gets the job done!
I've tried the " free " version and it's tantamount to using the Mac's built in process as explained @ this web site: http://osxdaily.com/2009/08/11/rearrange-the-status-items-in-the-mac-menu-bar/
.
How would you rate Vanilla app?
