Writing tool for complex documents.

Overview

Manuscripts is a writing tool for complex documents: it helps with the entire process of writing up complex work, from outlining the paper to the editing, proofreading and publishing stages, all from within one beautiful experience. Manuscripts is a word processor re-imagined to take a lot of mechanical formatting work off the author's shoulders, so he or she can focus on the substance of one's work. We top the editing features with a fully version-controlled file format and flexible import and export options. Our design packs in an unprecedented range of functionality, including multi-figure panels, table editing and equations, as well as a top-of-the-line citation workflow, all in one unified experience. The application imports and exports MS Word, LaTeX, Markdown, and HTML.

I Like the idea of the program and it has great potential, but it crashes a great deal and I had difficulty importing the files I created in Lyx. If it becomes more stable, I will probably use it more.

I love the software - I previously used a couple of different programs to achieve workflow which this one app achieves with ease. It is wonderful to use, and I find it to be more than stable enough (although not perfect). This is what academic software was always meant to be.

I've been using Manuscripts for 3 months now to write my thesis. The app is a great idea and has a great potential and I'm rooting for you Matias, BUT as it is at the moment is very cumbersome to use. It crashed A LOT, it lacks many basic feature that users constantly point out on the forum. It's terrible with table and not great with figures either. It's good for just writing text as it structures it well (although there should be much more flexibility on the text appearance side of things). All these things are forgivable provided that updates addressing these glitches are going to come out in a timely manner. The major negative for me as a user with high hopes after purchasing a new amazing software is that the support is extremely poor. The forum is dead, users' questions remain unanswered by the technical support, not mentioning the flat out lack of replies to emails. And of course there is no detailed documentation to teach users what Manuscripts does and how different functions work. Manuscripts has a potential to become the main writing tool for scientists, but I think it is still too early to charge money for it, because it doesn't work more frequently than it does.

I really wanted to like this app. It is promising as a tool sharpened for a specific purpose, scientific journal paper writing. However, it has proven far too crash prone, even with the latest fixes, and it is generally too slow for it to be used for any serious writing and editing.

This looks extremely promising. Extremely. But I can't take it seriously until the developers add a GUI for math entry. LyX still rules, so far.
