Well, I have survived until now without using the App Store... I'm sorry, but I'll think I'll continue this way. ;-) f.lux is great and free.

I've been using f.lux for several years, now. It works great and is updated regularly. And it's free: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37261/f-lux. What's more, it's backwards compatible to OS X 10.7 Lion.

It's a shame that the developer does not have a trial version ( try before you buy ). I am sure that many here can afford the 3 bucks and also don't seem to worry about wasting money. It still seems that the developper could offer a time limited try me version.
