See which apps are using your network.

Overview

Loading shows a spinning progress wheel in your menu bar when your network is being used, similar to the network-activity indicator on iOS. Clicking the icon shows the apps that are using your network, and holding down the option key shows the individual processes. The goal is to remove the complexity of traditional activity monitors, giving you a clean at-a-glance look at the information you want.

What's new in Loading

Version 1.2.4:
  • Fixed a bug with the System item disappearing from the menu
  • Added support for showing the iOS Simulator

Very nice. Digging into running processes with the option key is a great way to see what^s happening in the background.

Not at the moment, no. You'd have to take the PID and either find the process in Activity Monitor, or use the Terminal.

simple, efficient. does what it claims. for me, it's always spinning (safari, crashplan, etc). but informative, and, best of all...free.

You can disable the spinning animation for specific apps by clicking the checkbox next to them. I made it a little too hard to discover in 1.1, but hopefully that's fixed in 1.2!

if i uncheck something (crashplan, or safari, for example), why does it still show in the "loading" menu? just trying to understand the list (also, "loading" versus "loaded"...) thanx!

At some point I'm probably going to add more info about each app, like how much data they're using, so it could be useful having them around.

Loading means the app is currently using the network, and Loaded means it used the network recently. Will likely change those to "Current" and "Recent".
