3.6.0

Navigate contacts from the system menu, and more.

Overview

iAddressX puts your contacts' information in your menu bar for quick and easy access. iAddressX allows you to quickly dial, send email, paste mailing labels, find contacts, and many other tasks. It is a powerful personal-contacts productivity tool for instant access from the desktop to just about everything in Apple's Contacts app (formerly the Address Book). iAddressX will put your mind at ease by helping you access, navigate, search, view, organize, and instantly access your important contact information.

Features
  • Menubar Convenience and iAddressX: The main menu bar, also called the system menu, has been a main feature of Macintosh computers since the Mac's inception. iAddressX has now returned to the system menu as a status item, allowing easy access to almost everything related to contact from hierarchical menus.
  • Navigate Contacts: Navigate contacts from a small icon in the system menu and access many contact options.
  • Dymo Support: Print to your Dymo Label printer right from iAddressX.
  • Dial: Dial using Bluetooth, a USB Modem, Skype or an old-fashioned landline.
  • Search: Search your contacts directly from the menu bar.
  • Skype: Full support to initiate a call or chat using Skype.

What's new in iAddressX

Version 3.6.0:
New Features
  • Added "View ReadMe" menu command to view iAddressX program release information.
  • Added an option to show Contacts by Group as a sub-menu, or in the main menu. We recommend you enable Contacts by Group if you have many Groups
Changed Features
  • Major rewrite of many parts of the code that was originally designed for OS X 10.5 Leopard and earlier.
  • This version now supports OS X 10.7 Lion and later.
  • iAddressX was a Mac OS X Preference Pane. It is now an app installed as a status item in the menu bar.
Fixed
  • Application @ menu icon almost invisible if dark menu and Dock is selected in MacOS General Settings.

Nice to see this reliable tool brought back to life, It was an excellent way to access the old Address Book's information and I look forward to exploring how it is implemented now using Apple's new Contacts app in Yosemite. So far it seems to have all the old app's strong points.

Purduejim and/or Tropical Software-

I would suggest taking a look at JABMenu, a similar app, if you are looking for other features or ways to improve iAddressX.

I still have my original license email from MibaSoft for my purchase of iAddressX from January 7, 2003. It cost $8 at that time. JABMenu costs $15. I know your time is valuable and your efforts sincere, but I would suggest keep the price where it currently is, at $9-10.

Finally, the menu bar icon does not work when using the "dark menubar and Dock" option (the icon does not reverse, so you can barely see it) and the dark bezel around the type when showing the Large Type option seems too dark. I've emailed your support team with these same concerns.

You are right that the icon doesn't reverse when "dark menubar and Dock" is selected. For the time being try placing the icon near something you can easily see. I'm sure they will fix that later.

However the Large Type option is extremely legible and since close inspection shows that the background shows through the dark bezel I wouldn't want it any less dark.

I used the program for only a few minutes before buying it at it's current half price. The program is blazingly fast. I have almost 2700 contacts and over 140 groups yet I can scroll through the list in 2 seconds with the mouse or type the first few letters of a group or person to move there instantly. I’m running on a Mac Pro (Early 2009) so it’s not the latest hardware by any means.

After using it for a few weeks I would gladly pay up to $30 for the program. I can select any field in a person's contact information and paste it into whatever program I'm using without opening the Contacts program or having to close it later. As soon as I move the mouse after selecting Paste the item is inserted in my current program.

Hi Jamie:
Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback. I have looked at all the competing products that I can find including JABMenu. It is the most recent but dates back to 2012. JABMenu does have a pretty UI and we have some better icons we are working on for a future release. We also have made a change in the "@" icon to make it more visible in the dark menubar option. That is in the 3.6 release. We appreciate the feedback during our successful 2-month beta and are happy we could fit in a change. Please feel free to contact us with other great ideas.

Jamie, I too use JABMenu and also have my old iAdd s/n from Mibasoft.
Does JABMenu take a while to display your contacts? This is the point which may have me returning to iAdd-X.
Just sent an email to the folks at Tropical stating the above.

No, but it is priced at 1/2 price during this beta period. And you can try it for free now, We would love to hear from previous users as to how you like this new version. We have no way to contact previous customers. Though it has few new features, we were able to revive many of the key features that were broken by Apple's OS changes. Porting iAddressX from a Mac OS X 10.5 app to one working in 10.7-10.10 was a major effort as a lot has changed in the OS over the years. Still we love the concept and hope you do also.
