This looks REALLY interesting, unfortunately the Dev does not disclose that it uses a fork of SIMBL to work its magic (injecting code into Spotlight). Details here: https://github.com/nate-parrott/Flashlight So.. if you're running in, or worried about a secure environment, you MIGHT want to steer clear. Remember, Apple discourages code injection & InputManagers in Yosemite.

There is no version 1.1.0. The latest version is Version 1.0.1 and it was released in 2015. The GitHub page shows no changes in 2 years and says it's no longer maintained. No idea where MacUpdate got this "update" from.

Ah. Ok. Of course there's almost no way to know that, since the app links to http://flashlight.nateparrott.com/

And there's still no release notes… for an app that still uses SIMBL. Yikes. Will be staying away from this one.

I wouldn't call this a deal breaker though - Apple has discouraged InputManagers since like 10.4.

I tried to be guarded in what I said, because I don't "want to ruin it" for others who may find this useful. The Dev also seems to be quite well-intentioned as he didn't relabel SIMBL. Showing my "work", Alfred (the launcher) can be quite handy for flagging Apps that use "hidden" agents or daemons:

YMMV. I wish Apple would have more of a public API to where we could make plugins like this in Yosemite "sooner."

Apple doesn't endorse the installation of ANY third-party apps!

That's what AppleCare Support told me when I had an issue and they wanted to know what software I'd installed.

I have SIMBLE installed now on 10.10.5 and never considered it to be a security threat, and still don't.
