The retail version runs fine for me on OS X 10.11.3, but there are no Internet games available since GameSpy (servers) is no more.

Halo CE was crashing right after the splash screen for me. (Old Halo game folder copied from backup - not a clean install.) I purchased the Intel update some time ago, so I went looking for a solution.
Not only did HaloMD allow me to run the game again, but it also allowed me to install a graphics tweak that took it out of the curing cement sluggishness that characterized my first attempt. If you try this and the performance isn't what you would wish, try installing some of the extensions, and go to full screen. My deep thanks to the developers for resurrecting this old favorite that has collected dust for too long. Now, could you do something for HomeWorld 2?
