Keep your thumb drives free from annoying junk files.

Overview

USBclean quickly and easily removes all those pesky junk and ghost files from your external Windows formatted USB drives. .DS_Store, Thumbs.db, .Spotlight, and trashes files take up precious space, and can cause issues on some devices. Remove them all quickly and easily with USBclean. Configure USBclean the way you want! Remove files by dragging your drive into the handy drop zone, from the system menubar, or by dropping straight onto the dock icon. You can easily configure USBclean to run only from the system menubar and open at login. It's a snap to auto quit after dropping your drive onto the dock icon. USBclean always ejects your drive after cleaning for your convenience.

Note: Automatic eject is not available for all volume types.

I recently started using USBClean as a replacement for the rather annoyingly slow performing OptimUSB (although it did get the job done). USBClean performs its cleaning task within a split second, and it resides in the system menu bar and hardly takes up any resources. From its icon you can select any volume present and have certain OS X specific (hidden) files removed so they won't show up under Windows or (in my case) in the media player of my Samsung tv.

I had a request for the developer regarding specific functionality and he took it up right away and within 2 days he came up with a new version that included the anticipated extra functionality. He also provided me with a MAS redeem code up front should I not be satisfied with USBClean due to a specific feature I was looking for but couldn't check prior to the purchase as MAS doesn't provide any trial versions. Exemplary support, thanks russell.

Tried the demo now none of my external drives appear on the desktop at all anymore. So far no way to fix it and the developer did not respond to my inquiry. Guess I would say so far I HATE THIS APP!

How about just plugging the drive into your Mac and deleting the files - for free?

Because these files are invisible in macOS Finder. You need to be familiar with Terminal and UNIX command line to locate and delete them. Otherwise you need 3rd party apps like this one.
